If I Could Be a Poem With You

Tony Grannell

I’d rise before the early birds
and douse my verse with morning dew.
This poet’s dawn awash with words
if I could be a poem with you.

I’d flee the dark, come into sight,
embrace my day, my light, anew.
Then I would bear again the night
if I could be a poem with you.

With pen I’d verse my every dream
in hope, just one, becoming true.
I’d lay these dreams weighed ream on ream
if I could be a poem with you.

If true, a heart, won with a song,
would then the likes of me come through?
I’d sing the night, the whole day long
if I could be a poem with you.

A most identifiable poem with such wonderful wording. The poem seems a strong commitment to poetry. A fave
