I don't need religion
To find out what is true.
I don't need religion.
All I need is you.
I don't need religion
To tell me what is true.
I don't need religion
To point me to you.
I don't need religion,
To point me the way—
Just my faith and you
Present with me today.
You are what is true
And that is all I need
To stir my hurting heart,
And plant a healing seed.

This poem can be read as a tender declaration: simple, steady, and quietly profound. It reclaims the language of faith and devotion not for institutions, but for love made real and present in another person. The repetition of “I don’t need religion” becomes less a rejection and more a release (of dogma, of distance) in favour of something human, immediate, and healing. In its final lines, where heartache meets hope, the poem blossoms into something like prayer, but with open hands instead of folded ones. 🕊️🙏🏻
Thank you so much, my dear friend…you get it. Truly. Your reading reached right into the heart of what I hoped this poem would hold—something intimate, human, and sacred in its undoing of distance. You are right, this is not a rejection of true religion, but a rejection of the institutional underbelly, as it were. “Open hands instead of folded ones”…that line alone? That’s going to stay with me. Thank you for meeting this piece with such depth and tenderness, as you always do. ❤️🫱✨🙏
Most welcome, T. Religion has been like a love-hate relationship which I suspect must parallel quite a few experiences out there, throughout human history, I suspect. 🕊️🙏🏻
I suspect you are very correct.
Excellent write Tristan
Thank you so much, Tony! ❤️🫱✨🙏
You're welcome
A poem that is holding to most people's feeling today. A poem of spirituality more than religion. Nicely stated Tristan
Thank you, Soren. That means a lot. It can definitely be read that way. I wrote this to be open to interpretation and to hit the reader where they are. As I see it, religion is simply spirituality organized and all organizations are filled with people who both have it right and wrong at the same time. That or I am a loser at picking organizations! 🤣 All jokes aside, for me, this is not so much a turn away from religion, but maybe a reaching through it. Thank you again, dear poet and friend for your time and you deeply thoughtful engagement. Much appreciated! ❤️🫱✨🙏
A lovely writing ..
Especially like the last verse ‘ plant a healing seed ‘
Some people are religious .. some people more ‘ spiritual ‘
Indeed, this is very true. Religion is spirituality organized. Thank you so much for your time and thoughts, my friend! ❤️🫱✨🙏
I say we should all believe in ourselves, there is no greater religion than that. 🌹
Belief in oneself is certainly vital—no belief outside of that is truly effective without it. I’ve learned that, no doubt. Very wise, indeed, my friend. I’d also add that, as social creatures, it’s just as vital to have others who believe in us too. Thank you so much, Teddy, for your time and thoughtful feedback. Much appreciated! ❤️🫱✨🙏
Many a statement said so true, let the healing begin, enjoyed the read
Amen! Let the healing begin indeed. Thank you for getting this, my friend! ❤️🫱✨🙏
You are very welcome
That's great, what a great message. I enjoyed it very much! Thanks for sharing! Best regards.
You are welcome! I am really glad the poem and it's message resonated! ❤️🫱✨🙏
Yes. 'religion' is the cause of some of the troubles today.
Meanwhile - I never knew all you needed was me! LOL. Fat lot of help I will be. heehee.
Fun fact! It's true, Orchi! Love ya tons, my friend! No, not like Pop...erm...never mind! 🤣
Popeye says to Obi - and vice versa - all I need is you! Don\'t answer the question: 'why?' LOL.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I suspect I might not have to say a word! 🤪
This...right here...made me laugh so hard! Thank you for that, Orchi! Sincerely. I know you get the poem...but your humor got me and for that I am very thankful! Always. Laughter (and crying)...the best medicine!
Heehee.
