Epiclesis

Tristan Robert Lange

My jew’led, diamond heart has become a skull,
Sunken and hollowed—I close my sore eyes.
The darkness surrounds me but doesn’t lull.
Rain stick static—deep space pings—truth sans lies.

I feel a light descend, my worry dies
As it travels down the length of my spine.
It flares like the sun as my body flies
Through a vast galaxy named Intertwine,

Where the myths of the ages becomes wine,
Wrathless, pressed by vintage feet of God’s love—
It floods, beats life into this heart of mine—
An unfermented potion from above.

A message came through—to ignore is sin—
We must journey through the vast void within.

Well-written, your poem "Epiclesis" masterfully reveals the profoundly transformative power of divine love and spiritual awakening, illuminating the triumphant journey from despair to enlightenment. It thoughtfully underscores the imperative of confronting one's inner void to attain renewal and a deeply meaningful connection with a higher truth. The poet extends an inspiring invitation to confront one's inner void and wholeheartedly embrace the transformative power of love and truth. It gently yet persuasively suggests that neglecting this journey is a disservice to oneself, encouraging readers to seek enlightenment and a profound connection with the divine.

I am sacrilegious for laughing silently over this invocation which seems verily akin to the image topping it, but, curiously enough, one of the verses in Proverbs 20 addressed this [we have been reading a Proverbs-a-day for decades now], "....Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?" (Prov 20:9) And yes, you will remind me of what the lines above say, namely that the speaker didn't etc. But. Gorgeously rendered with excellent imagery and a keenly haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.

I will do no such reminding, my friend. I am thankful for both your read and your thoughts. Indeed, none of us can say "we" have made anything but a mess of our hearts! Full stop, I agree. Thank you, as always, for your time and insights. 🧬🌌🍷💫🙏

I called in Fido to explain epiclesis to me, though I did know of Epictetus, a philosopher or summat of centuries ago. i thought this was gonna be about him. lol.
Go to Specsavers Orchi, says Fido to me.
Completely nutty comment - is Epictetus related to Popeye? If he is, don't answer how or why. lol.

                  • Tristan Robert Lange

No. I am pretty sure he would have not opted for Spinach...wait, no that is Epicurus. Indeed, Epictetus and Popeye might actually be related. If that is so, then what did Epictetus do...wait, don't answer that! 🤣

                                  Hello Tristan,

A strong and perfectly composed sonnet. The vein of the divine cutting through each verse as if out of the pages of history itself. The final couplet, a hallelujah moment - one of great understanding. Terrific, my friend.

                                  Fond regards,

                                  Tony.
