You are the only person, to get away with the things you have
And I am a fool
Who becomes the court jester every time
The blind rat, misled by every flitting vowel
Like a carousel with the amount of times we’ve gone around in circles
Then a jack in the box, we wind everything up
Pop
Everything we wanted to forget has returned
The circus is back and here with new tricks
Underneath its tent we will still find all of our old memories
When the elephant comes out for the parlor, I shan’t call it by name
Addressing it would be the same as confessing to you
Except that wouldn’t be feelings of romance,
It would be admitting that I have changed too much for us to ever have a chance.
That I have moved on,
And that I am no longer the child you knew who wished to go to the circus

- Comment from author about the poem: About a person I cannot bear to lose, but we always find ourselves too different, we have been lost to time ever since we first fell in love. The sad part about a childhood love story separated by distance

A poem of love gone sour turned to cheese and milk not knowing. A metaphor where the circus is the child's desire just as a fanciful relationship the fantasy of the immature. Nicely done
Well written and expressed
