Why me?

sorenbarrett

Throw gas on a fire, blame the flame for its burning desire
Pull the trigger on the gun, condemn the bullet for what's done
Lean upon the blade, fault the knife for cuts it has made
Inculpate the baby crying, the weak for not trying, the wounded for dying
Blame the hammer striking the thumb, cut off your hand to make it numb

Looking for that escape goat to ease your own conscience, some find it easier to just blaming without looking for the real fault, often themselves, enjoyed the read

Well written, I firmly believe that we are all guilty of this; it is an intrinsic aspect of human behavior. We all engage in this behavior. I do not think that any single individual can be ruled out. Your poem "Why Me!" addresses the theme of misplaced blame and the human tendency to assign responsibility for our own suffering or failures to external forces rather than recognizing our own roles in these situations. It critiques the irrationality of blaming inanimate objects or the vulnerable for the consequences of our actions. The poet explores the idea of accountability and the absurdity of blaming others or inanimate objects for our own choices and outcomes. The imagery evokes violence, hardship, and the struggle for understanding in the face of suffering.

Thank you Friendship for the review and interpretation of this piece and its understanding. It is true that we may all engage in it from time to time and at times without even knowing thinking that we are right in ascribing our blame to others but in the end it is only by taking responsibility for our own actions that we can learn and progress.

What a fierce cascade of inversion,“Why Me?” reads like a howl against moral misdirection and the failure to confront true culpability.

                • sorenbarrett

Indeed it seems human nature to shift blame whether personal, organizational, governmental or as humanity in general. Thank you so much for the read and kind words of support

You wrote a poem with long, sharp fangs, Soren. My kind of poem! Each line flips the blame with precision…like watching denial unravel in real time. “Blame the hammer striking the thumb”—yeah. You don’t miss. Beautifully done. 🌹👏

Thank you so much Tristan for your review and words of support and encouragement. It is anathema now days to speak of such things as a woman dressed seductively in front of hormone raging males and shift the blame to males out of control saying each should control their behavior. But why wave a red flag in front of a bull? Why poor gas on an open flame when you know the result. Is blame even the issue or is it a question of poor judgement?

                        • Tristan Robert Lange

Soren, you’re most welcome, my dear friend. 💯 No idea should be an anathema to discuss. Ideas are best understood and tested via expression and discourse. If an idea is bad, it’ll go the way of bad ideas. But what if it’s good? And then who decides what counts as good or bad? LOL! I digress.

Discernment matters, absolutely...but at the end of the day, I still believe each of us is responsible for our behavior. And I think that’s what you’re ultimately saying. Not that the men aren’t culpable…but why put oneself in that situation?

Still, I wouldn’t excuse the hormone-raging men for not controlling their hormones. I have controlled mine...you yours. They can too. LOL!

To give a different but similar example: the idea that a gay person should stop dressing or acting “gay” just to avoid backlash. We both know that’s not right. That’s the nuance I bring up. Anywho, a wonderful poem and sparked discussion my friend.

Should we choose the dark light or the shining shadow ?

                          • sorenbarrett

Ah there is the question. A choice between two equals a nonchoice indeed. Thank you Lorenz for the read and words of understanding

A reluctance to take responsibility, and then to accept accountability seems to be pervasive these days, especially in the upper eschalons of our society, dare I say government. At what point did we lose our moral compass. Great and thought provoking write!

Throwing stones, where to hide so many hands? Inner judgment is the best judgment, the one we must face. Thank you so much for sharing. A great reflection and splendid writing. Best regards, Cor.
