The character of a man

sorenbarrett

What do you do with an unwanted pregnant dog when your world is full of strays and your pockets are empty
How would a dog treat you if homeless and he has no pockets
Why do we think only people go to heaven

This is a beautiful reminder of humanity which should be no different between humans and animals, takes a lot for some to find empathy and compassion. sorrenbarret I'm off to limbo in any case somewhere in the middle, maybe I will be able to see Heaven and Hell? How much fun that would be. 🌹

Why not to send it in an animal shelter ?

Indeed so we do with our refugees. Those not adoptable are then put down. So easy to say we have done our duty when they are out of sight. Thanks so much for the read and comment my friend.

              Hello, Soren,

Man's best friend when all is well. To do what a dog would do, that is the question. I say, homeless or not, care for her and hope for the best, that said, it is a conundrum. Well put, said and questioned in your usual compassionate style.

              All the best,

              Tony.

A profoundly moving, soul-stirring poem. Your poem beautifully weaves together compassion, responsibility, and the interconnectedness of all beings, human and animal, inspiring a deeper reflection on our shared humanity. It raises vital ethical questions about how society treats the vulnerable, particularly those who are unwanted or marginalized, such as pregnant dogs and strays, urging us to reconsider our values. The poet thoughtfully invites a contemplation on the nature of humanity and empathy, questioning why we often draw a line between humans and animals in matters of dignity and the afterlife, encouraging a more inclusive and compassionate worldview.

Thank you Friendship for the review and understanding of the underlying message of the poem. To what point does charity extend and when does it become a burden that is unmanageable and the lifeboat will sink with too much weight. A question that each will have to answer for themselves and that is what defines their character.

There are those who might say its a man thing .. It's not, is it .. it takes all sorts .. My guess is, that heaven is full of em and in all shapes and sizes .. Tho' maybe simple in composition, what we have here, is something much more profound and highly complex touching on the higher corporeal components that which sets man apart .. This is really about compassion and empathy isn't it .. or am I barking up the wrong tree ..

You old dog you got it from the start. I have several stray dogs that people have loosed roaming the woods and fields and I ask myself where does compassion end and enablement begin? To feed and house the number grows and they take over killing natural wild life. To ignore and allow to fend for themselves is hard on the heart seeing a dead dog starved on the trail. Pups harder still. How we treat the homeless, refugees that overwhelm our shores and even our own poor and needy defines the character of a nation a man himself Thank you Neville for your understanding of this issue and poem
