I have to be in El Paso Yesterday

Victor Bolshov

Ain’t even a town, just a dismal bay,
I have to be in El Paso yesterday.
Headin’ straight south, rollin’, rollin’, down,
In the fucking dust — can’t see shit around.
I have to be in El Paso yesterday.

The hell’s that hundred-pound suitcase in the trunk?
What’s in the suitcase, what’s in the suitcase, punk?
Two lines for the road, what can go wrong?
Gunnin’ down Highway 60 all along.
What’s in the suitcase, what’s in the suitcase, punk?!

Faster, faster, faster, faster, faster than a blink!
Life is flowing like vodka — pour and drink!

Danny wants to stop, “Let’s just call it a day,”
Though I have to be in El Paso yesterday.
Long legs, gunsmoke, music, sin,
Whiskey, tequila and fire within,
Fucking have to be in El Paso yesterday.

Faster, faster, faster, faster, faster than a blink!
Life is flowing like vodka — pour and drink!

Feels like I’m tired of shootin’ all the way,
I have to be in El Paso fucking yesterday.
Saloon, bordello, round and again,
Danny, get your ass up — fuck’s sake, man —
I have to be in El fucking Paso yesterday.

Faster, faster, faster, faster, faster than a blink!
Life is flowing like vodka — pour and drink!

  • Comment from author about the poem: It's a rock-n-roll / country song. Basically a road-trip spaghetti western. I haven't been writing in English for a while, and this is, too, an English translation of a song that I wrote today in Russian (hence the Russian title on the cover image). But I think it kinda works ;-)

I can hear the song in this poem, it begs to be let out. Nicely done

    It does (work).
Don't ever get there... the urgency of the trip and its impediments is the fun.
