Verse 1:
There was an ugly kid in town
That no one wanted around.
He was not worth anything,
Just a silly ugly freak.
Sat all alone at school,
Self-hatred scarred fool.
Cried suicide down his cheek,
This world devours the weak.
Chorus:
What were they afraid of?
Was in need of someone's love.
What were they afraid of?
Were they afraid to love?
Verse 2:
A fat man slandered down,
Became the talk of the town.
He used to look like a freight,
Until he lost all of that weight.
But they never really cared,
But for gossip in the air.
Apathetic words tore apart
His lacerated heart.
Chorus:
What were they afraid of?
Was in need of someone's love.
What were they afraid of?
Were they afraid to love?

Good write/song T.
Thank you, my friend! Did you leave Popeye, Tom, Obi and crew behind? Oh, I know, they're a tired lot, aren't they! π€£
They're worn out! Why? Don't answer that! lol.
Welcome back, great write, we can be so in need of and want love so much, that when it arrives it terrifies us and we don't know how to handle it, enjoyed the read
That is very true, my friend. Thanks for the warm welcome. Now to getting back into my rhythm again! π€£ So glad that the song delivered and you enjoyed. Have a great Saturday! ππ―οΈπ±π
You are very welcome
There's a fundamental horror of aberrations which, aided and abetted by hauteur, only worsens the situation. Besides, perception is half the problem. This pretty number seems incomplete, begun, yet painfully lacking closure. Thank you so very, very much for sharing this.
Indeed. It is and I am so glad you caught that my friend. An astute observation and intentional. I truly have missed everyone here and it is so good to be back on and engaging again! Thank you so much for your continued presence and support, Missy! ππ―οΈπ±π
I guess the world is more interested in material beauty these days, may I just say that Pamela Anderson has single handedly brought beauty back down to earth, choosing to be herself without makeup, without plastic surgery, she had a boob job in her 20's but that's it, beauty really is inside and in the eyes of the beholder, it's not just nonsense it's true, and my dear Tristan, I wouldn't care what any other human thinks of me that's just wasting time and energy and emotions better wasted on loving ones self. A great song my dear friend.
π― And Pamela Anderson is a wonderful woman and role model. Totes agree. She's the real deal! Thank you for your presence, support, and wisdom, Teddy. Always appreciated, my friend! ππ―οΈπ±π
Bloomin bloomin bloomin brilliant .. I could listen to you all day my friend .. Has anyone ever told you that you sound like a young Neil Young but better and I'm a huge fan of that guy too .. I shall go & listen elsewhere too .. ππ+x5βββββ's
No...but damn I will take that and start rocking in the free world, or what's left of it anywho! π€£ Thank you so much, Neville! I'm all chuffed up now and you know how hard that is...oh who am I kidding, I am softy under all the goth and brood! LOL! Again. I truly appreciate your time, your thoughts and your encouragement. Means the world to me! ππ―οΈπ±π
Your poem powerfully captures the themes of resilience, self-love, and the profound need for acceptance, shining a light on the struggles of individuals who are often marginalized due to their appearance or personal battles, and how this leads to profound feelings of isolation and desperation, serving as a powerful reminder of the damaging impact of societal norms and the transformative power of compassion, empathy, and kindness, inspiring a call to action for greater understanding, tolerance, and love towards those who are perceived as different.
Amen. Wow! Reading this makes me so happy to be back with my friends, dear friendship. Thank you so much for not only reading/listening to the poem, but for deeply engaging, feeling, and understanding it. πΉππ―οΈπ±π
You're so welcome, my friend,l did miss you. Welcome home,β€οΈπ
Thank you! It is good, indeed, being back home!
Music and poetry are so closely intertwined, beautifully done. I find it that others were afraid to love us because the broken are frowned upon.
Very true; yet the tragic irony is this: which human isn't broken. Those who judge do so projecting their own brokenness onto others. Anywho....thank you so much for your insight. You are π― spot on.
You have a point, though I do believe some humans are less broken than others, perhaps with different life experiences
