Beneath the moon’s pale, haunted glow,
Where shadows breathe, and wild winds blow,
I walk the path the night has sown,
Through ruins where the roots have grown.
The air is thick with candle smoke,
The chapel’s spine is bent and broke,
Its glass, like frozen tears, has wept,
For secrets graves have always kept.
A raven speaks in mournful rhyme,
Of lovers lost beyond all time,
Their names now dust, yet hearts still ache,
Through midnight’s veil they cannot break.
Each step I take, the ground recalls,
The echo deep in hollow halls,
And though the dark feels cold, unkind,
It whispers truths I came to find.
So here I stay, where night won’t fade,
Among the thorns the dusk has made,
For in this gloom, I see my part—
The gothic moon, my midnight heart.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem is a reflection of the part of me that feels alive in the quiet of the night. It’s about walking through shadows, listening to the whispers of forgotten places, and finding beauty in things the world might call broken. Every ruin, every echo, carries a truth the daylight often hides. In these lines, I’ve poured the feeling of standing between darkness and light, where the gloom isn’t something to fear, but a place where my heart speaks in its truest voice.

I appreciate your author's note since it gives perspective. Frankly, had I not read your poem, I could assure you I've similar interests, however the poem derails that thought since I've been fascinated by the world at night not for evil influences but rather the curious sense the darkness yields. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.
Thank for your golden words.
This poem is dark and calls out of the shadows. Gothic in nature it has a sense of peace to it as well. Nicely written
