See past the lines that time has drawn,
The marks of battles, dusk and dawn.
Beyond the limits eyes might see,
Or what a body claims to be.
Don't let the surface hold your gaze,
Through shadowed paths and mended ways.
For deeper than the skin's frail map,
A vibrant spirit fills the gap.
Beyond the scar, the altered form,
Resides a kindness, soft and warm.
A courage forged in fire's heat,
A spirit wonderfully complete.
A mind that journeys, vast and free,
A universe for you to see.
A gentle wit, a wisdom deep,
Promises that the heart will keep.
So quiet your sight, and let your soul,
Perceive a beauty making whole.
A laughter waits, a story told,
More precious far than purest gold.
For past the struggle and the strife,
You'll find a truly remarkable life.
A person waiting, rich and real,
For eyes that look, and hearts that feel

The classic line rendered something like this, "the eyes are the windows of the soul," and oft referenced thus by the ancient poets such as Spenser, are what allow the soul to see further than the case or carcase decked for show or plain and simply. This invitation expands beyond very prettily, rendered sweetly with excellent imagery and an engaging poignancy. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you.Cheeky Missy, for stopping by and reading my poem, and most of all for your kind words.
This poem seems to be saying that there is more than meets the eyes, that below the surface is another with far greater qualities that what would be expected from looking at the outside. Very nicely written in a clear form.
Thank you, Sorenbarrett, for your kind words and your interpretation of my poem. Yes, you truly understood the main point of what I was saying. I appreciated you stopping by and reading my poem. Have a nice day.
You are most welcome
I find this to be a really positive and uplifting write, we should always look below the surface to find the real person and hidden gems, but equally as the write suggests, we should look at ourselves in the same way, however much pain and hurt you have to dig through, enjoyed the read
I appreciate your visit and thoughtful commentary on my poem. Your understanding is accurate, and I value your insight. Indeed, introspection can be a painful process. I wish you a pleasant day. Poetic.
You are very welcome
What a beautiful text! I read it with calm music in the background, and I felt a healing experience. The writing, the message, and the experience of someone who knows how painful it is are incredible. But it encourages me to continue. Not entirely moved, I finish writing to thank you for your writing. Best regards.
Thank you. Damaso, you honestly got the core of my poem. I thank you for understanding. Yes, you are also correct. It's just hard when people only judge me from the outside and don't see the beauty on the inside; scars and disability don't define who I am.
Hello, Friendship,
The five senses that most of us are gifted with to completely understand our surroundings, to be of the moment, as it were, that within to know the outside world and of course the sixth sense that all poets possess to fully appreciate our fellow man and ourselves. A beautifully composed poem, expressed with your usual flair and mastery.
Wishing you all the very best,
Tony.
