Seven Lines to Burn

Tristan Robert Lange

Purposeful in speaking
Revelation to a world
Overcome by its own self-worship—
Paralysis by degrees of narcissism.
Harrowing as it may seem,
Energy comes through righteous anger.
The damned deny their own self-destruction.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem opens The Book of Tittu—a cycle of eight visions carried in a single voice. Each stands on its own, yet all are bound together. The name “Tittu” was given to me by my dear friend Salvia S. of MyPoeticSide who has truly seen me for who I am. She formed it from the first two T’s in Tristan, one from Robert, and “U” for “you,” not knowing it already meant “honorable,” “artistically creative,” and, in her culture, “beloved.” That name and its meaning have since become part of me, and I am eternally grateful for such a profoundly personal and humbling gift.

Ah thanks for this christening backstory (to Salvia as well) and these eight visions as they unveil at MPS 🙏🏻🕊️

    • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you, dear friend. I am glad you enjoyed the backstory and I truly hope the series delivers. 🔥🌩️🕯️🙏

The poem is striking and thought-provoking. This delivers a clear moral urgency in just a few lines, with a tone that feels both personal and universal. Very nicely written dearest Tittu ❤️

I'm so happy that you revealed the truth to everyone!!!! This actually put a smile on my face, a prayer in my heart ❤️ and always a thought in my mind. Thank you very much.

      • Tristan Robert Lange

Salvia, your words here mean more than I can fully say. You’ve been part of this poem from before it was even written...your gift of the name Tittu has become who I am and I bear that name humbly. I’m so glad the reveal brought a smile, a prayer, and a thought to carry with you. Always grateful for you, my dear friend. ❤️🙏

A very cool acrostic poem Tristan that is defining of the subject. Well done

        • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you, my dear friend. I am glad that the acrostic delivered and you found it definitive, which I aimed to do is quite the challenge to capture. I am humbled you felt it did, my friend. 🔥🌩️🕯️🙏

        • Bella Shepard

I'm not familiar with the acrostic, so I googled. I think that in the first 4 lines the prophet wisely presents the problem in our society, and in the last 3 defines the answer in "righteous anger". Not sure if I interpret correctly, but an incredible message about the state of our society. Kudos!

          • Tristan Robert Lange

Bella, you interpreted it beautifully. I’m glad the message came through for you...it’s always encouraging when someone engages this deeply. I find the acrostic to be a fun challenge. Grateful for your words, my friend. 🔥🌩️🕯️🙏

A very powerful write and poignant write on the state of today's society, loved the background notes to this, enjoyed the read

                • Tristan Robert Lange

Thank you so much, my friend. Glad the first of the series delivered and that you appreciated the notes as well. 🔥🌩️🕯️🙏

                  Hello, Tristan,

How the great orators can become so blinkered by their own words that they end up spitting vile as they fall from grace in to the vat of acid of their own making. Excellent stuff, truly. Welcome back to the fold, you were greatly missed.

Wishing you all the very best,

                  Tony.

                  • Tristan Robert Lange

Tony, I appreciate the welcome back...it’s good to be here again. I like how you’ve framed it…the orators drowning in the very acid they’ve stirred. That’s exactly the self-destruction I had in mind. Always grateful for your thoughtful reads, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Wherefore shall we burn these seven lines, eh? I must heartily disagree with the assertion that prophets' "righteous" anger drives them, for what about, "be ye angry and sin not, let not the sun go down upon your wrath, neither give place to the devil,--" or, "let every man be swift to hear, slow speak, slow to wrath, for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God...." (Eph 4:26-27; James 1:19-20). I dunno. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and heart, not to mention a haunting poignancy. Thank you so very, very much for sharing.

Missy, I appreciate you bringing those passages into the conversation...they’re powerful reminders. In the context of this piece or any context really, “righteous anger” isn’t license to sin (otherwise, by definition, it wouldn't be righteous, no?), but the fire that can move a prophet to speak when silence would be complicity. Think Elijah atop Mt. Carmel against 450 prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:16-40). It’s a dangerous calling, and it takes one who’s walked in it to know its weight. Always grateful for your engagement, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Popeye must be on his 7th life to burn now. Why? Don't answer that! lol.

                    • NinjaGirl

The last two lines are particularly poignant...as for the backstory, incredibly lovely, dear Salvia and her wishes of a well week have always made me smile.

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

Indeed, she is a gem and a blessing to us all! Lots of smiles to be had! Thank you so much, my friend. Whether you know it or not, you are a blessing to! 🔥🌩️🕯️🙏
