The poet

sorenbarrett

A poem is but a dream, to write it you must live it
Poem the rider you the night's mare guided by its bit
You must feel its whip and spurs the sting of its lash
The taste of the metal, as on the bit your teeth gnash
Through dark bumpy roads you must run, stumble and fall
Guided by poetic reins, directed by its call
A feather from the wing of Pegasus ink your blood
From hoofprints it does sing, words flow in a flood

          Hello, Soren,

A very fitting analogy: the equine poet at the trot to canter and finally at the gallop, the last furlong, past the post and the poem complete. A most unusual and engaging poem in your usual gifted style. Very well done, I really enjoyed this one.

          Your fellow poet and friend,

          Tony.

Thanks Tony always a privilege to hear your review. Yes unusual indeed I think poets walk the extremes either the unusual or the mundane and everyday experience that the common man can identify with, but even so put in a unique manner. Thank you my friend for you kind words of encouragement

The wife’s last car was christened Pegasus, it was poetry when we motored about on road trips-a suitable parallelism 🙏🏻🕊️

Thank you Cryptic for the read. Yes it seems that the poem has to ride you and hopefully it has a drivers license

              • arqios

Oh that it does, some sort of muse’s advocate, last I heard😎🙏🏻🕊️

Soren, this one rides (pun intended) hard and true. You’ve caught the way a poem takes the reins and won’t let go…how it leaves its mark on you even as it carries you forward. And I have an affinity for Pegasus—that feather line made me grin. Beautiful work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                    • sorenbarrett

Thank you Tristan for the read and kind words they are appreciated as always. If this poem got one grin it was then worth it.

Hear hear! I just read it again, and a second grin appeared! I am sure many more than mine too! You are most welcome!

From hoofprints it does sing - what a line!
to write it you must live it - another gem.
                        Great work. 🙏

Sometimes, I feel more like a jackass than a horse and my poems are the weight of a ten day journey. But I loved your metaphor and it felt true. Loved, "A feather from the wing of Pegasus." - Phil A.

I know I've said it before but what else is a metaphor if it can't be fit snug in a poem and be savoured .. well writ sir S .. N
