The Gauntlet

Tristan Robert Lange

Wisdom given to those who walk
Illusions to their natural conclusions—
Leaving behind the façade of fakery—
Deliberately leaving their masks to their fate.
Every soul who sings God’s sonnet songs
Runs through the gauntlet of self-discovery.
Never fear what you see on the outside.
Every wilderness is a wonder to behold.
Some people fear what they may find.
Some, fewer still, embrace and intertwine.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is the third vision in The Book of Tittu — a cycle of eight. Here, the voice steps fully onto the path, where illusions are stripped away and truth is met without disguise. Some turn back in fear. Others press on, knowing every wilderness—within and without—holds its own wonder.

Fear of the truth has a long history in man in general and in each individual. A lovely write that has deep philosophical, religious and psychological implications. Very nice Tristan

Thank you Soren. Indeed, attempting to have these hit broad and wide and I am glad to see that they are delivering that way so far. Your analysis and support mean the world to me. 🌲🪨🛤️🙏

You are most welcome my friend

I read it thrice. Every time the line "Every wilderness is a wonder to behold." leaped up and said "realise me". A wonderful work 🙏

Wow! Thank you for sharing that, my dear friend. I spent a lot of time pondering and tweaking and changing back and tweaking. LOL! Glad I settled on the right wording and that it stuck out each time. I am truly humbled! 🌲🪨🛤️🙏

Methinks I've figured out why there's such an instinctive familiarity to your lines...like Garrison Keillor, you're from the inside, whence you know best how to crucify. And like Keillor, you can laugh loudest at the foibles therein. Excellently rendered with well-nigh exquisite imagery, a haunting poignancy, and a devilish bent. Thank you for sharing.

Missy…that’s a very astute read. Rock on! 🙂 And you’re not wrong about the inside vantage point or the ability to laugh even as I cut close. I'm grateful beyond words for your steady presence here. Always a pleasure to have you in "the gauntlet" (or wherever my poems are located 🤣) with me, my friend. 🌲🪨🛤️🙏

For some the truth is the ultimate nightmare in each if us, but with yourself and the world you cannot move forward or embrace the world if you do not know the truth, another goodun, enjoyed

💯 the truth! Thank you so much, Tobani! I really appreciate your time and your presence. Glad it delivered! 🌲🪨🛤️🙏

Gorgeous, I saw so much imagery whilst reading. Love your last lines. 🌹

Yesss! Those words...I could print and frame them! 🤣 Thank you so much, Teddy. I mean it...your words the other day about "seeing me", they meant a lot, my dear friend. These past few weeks have been rough...but being seen and cared for makes almost anything insurrmountable. You bring that very empathy and presence to so many on this site and, I want you to know, I see you too! 💜 Keep rocking, my friend!

Wow, what a mystery it is to know how it continues. Although something inside me tells me I know what it's about; you remind me of tales of pagan rituals from my homeland where healing and prayer were taught, where you could fall into trances of terrifying visions of aliens and many illusions of the worst human fears. All in order to reach the master's final enlightenment, understanding that it was all an illusion of their minds. I've enjoyed it very much. Thank you for sharing. Greetings.

If you respond, you could honor that bridge he’s making—acknowledge the shared recognition of ritual, trance, and confronting illusions—while also lightly pointing out that the pagan/Christian divide can blur when the goal is transformation. That way, you affirm his insight and keep the door open for deeper exchange. 🌲🪨🛤️🙏

What an amazingly insightful deduction .. am loving each step of the way .. both a telling and leading light lies ahead of the anticipated darkness .. the gauntlet is indeed thrown .. 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐈‍⬛⭐👍

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

Neville, I’m glad you’re walking each step of this with me…that stokes my creativity and excitement! The gauntlet’s there for the taking, my friend, and I am glad you took it. 🌲🪨🛤️🙏

This poem is a powerful reflection on the journey of self-discovery. It encourages facing truth over illusion and embracing the unknown within. Thoughtful and quietly bold. Well written dearest Tittu ❤️
