Heart of Relief.

Poetic Licence

Notice of absence from Poetic Licence
They Think It Is All Over.
Sad to say it is now.
Take Care.

Heart of Relief.

Standing freefalling on the sharp edge of obscurity.

Exhausted to the core and rinsed out fully mentally.

Anaesthetised my thoughts and feelings emotionally.

Aged, weakened bones affecting my physicality.

No longer in need or searching for any resolutions.

Confined and living in a world of frightening damnation.

Only the devil has come forward with any propositions.

No offers from the house above offering me salvation.

I am already resident in my world that is a living hell.

I am listening intently with what the devil must tell.

To release all of my pain, that i have rampaging inside.

We agree a deal if I am prepared to pay the price.

My blackened dead soul will no longer belong to me.

I will willingly move permanently to hell for all eternity.

Before the agreement with the devil can go through.

I know there is one last thing, that I alone must do.

I gather my remaining strength everything that's left.

I plunge my bony hands into the centre of my chest.

Then rip out my heart that has caused so much grief.

My bloodied hands hold it out for the devil to see.

Then slowly squeeze it tight until the arteries explode.

Then stand and watch as my rotten blood starts to flow.

The pain, hurt, anger, rage, sadness slowly drips to the floor.

The devil smiles and says now no one can hurt you anymore.

A poem of torment where suicide is seen as a protection against future harm. Graphic it the form of Mayan or Aztec sacrifice it yells out to the reader of pain. Nicely done Tobani

Tobani, this is raw and visceral…you don’t hold back on the imagery or the weight of that deal with the devil. The closing line hits like a cold, final release. Very strong work, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛ A fave!

              Wow.. hang on!
Just went in for a 2nd dive
              Rocked me to the core
              Yet my tears ran dry
              The next breath taken
              Now I feel so alive

I need to free myself as you have described, with a flow that connects me back to my hive.

Endless appreciated with peace and respect

Dang! Yet another version of the infamous Dr. Faustus, perhaps one more readily digestible by this modern intellect. Macabre and ghastly with excellent imagery and a haunting poignancy, rendered so vividly I well- nigh shiver instinctively. Alas! Thank you for sharing.

Directed to borrow an original copy of Marlowe's Dr. Faustus for my own studies 15 years ago, I finally bought a copy containing both versions A and B, subsequently frightening me with the incantations.

This is dark, visceral, and unflinching, Natiella. It plunges into the depths of despair and the surrender of self to end unbearable suffering. Its imagery is raw; bone, blood, and the physical tearing out of grief and yet the final moment delivers a chilling kind of peace: harm is no longer possible. A haunting meditation on the cost of release.

One of the best poems I have read so far. One needs to read it twice or more to hear the voice speaking with otherworldly fire!
