Fungi Have Feelings Too You Know
Variously, like crab eye stalks,
they began to fumble and probe blindly
through their own blanket
of leaf litter and old composted mulch ..
Each one gagging and gasping
for some kind of nourishment through
fragile, fluted gills, like some
fancy koi out of water, desperate to grab
a good lungful of chlorophyl ..

Tell me about it! I literally got ID'd for buying a trippy mushroom T-shirt that said "Great Dayz Ahead"...ooh the psychedelic horror! 🍄😱 Mean while, kids are walking around with 20 proof mouthwash in their hands. 'Merica! 🤦♂️ Leave the fungi alone! 🤣 That aside out of the way, my dear friend Neville, you’ve made the fungi writhe with such strange, vivid life here…oddly tender yet a little unsettling too (the only way to have it, lol). That blend of humor and unease is perfection in my book. Great poem. A fave from this fungi lover. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️
Amazing creatures and true .. many thanks Tristan .. just remember watch what you pick .. they may just end up ruling the world one day .. 🍄👍
Ooh...for sure. There's the nutritious kind, the talk to God kind, and the put you 6 feet under ☠️ kind! LOL! And you are right! For sure. Have you seen the show, The Last of Us? Fungus is for real! LOL!
This may have more meaning to me than most. I believe that all life forms have feelings, maybe not as you and I, but in their own way. I respect each piece of grass and weed, the microbes and the fungi they belong here as much as well just distant relatives. A wonderful read that may seem absurd to some but not to me. A fave
Thank you too for the nod n the thumbs up my friend .. I dig it .. Neville
Most welcome Neville have a great day
This is wonderfully unsettling, with the pairing of “crab eye stalks” and “fancy koi out of water” turns the humble fungi into strange, half‑animal seekers. I could almost feel the damp mulch and that blind, urgent reach for nourishment. The way you render their fragility makes the scene oddly tender as well as alien. It lingers like the smell of rain on soil.
That'll do nicely .. Cheers .. Neville
No worries, mate 🙏🏻🕊️
Good write N. And now the very old corny joke: 'He was a fungi / fun guy, the life and soul of the party!' lol.
................................... Blimey, no Shitake
What on earth?! You're downright hilarious and cleverly suggestive in a trice, the very idea laughable. Good grief! I love, love, love it!!! Gorgeously rendered with excellent imagery and a delicious poignancy. Thank you for sharing.
Why thank thee n kindly Ma'am ..
I got two things out of this write, firstly I believe if it is alive then why can't it feel in some way. Secondly I got a sense this could be an off beat description of us scrambling around in the world, and the chlorophyll is needed to put us back to sleep. However it is meant to be it certainly is an interesting and entertaining read
Two things .. blimey .. thanks mate ..
Kudos to you for standing up for the fungi. Great imagery and imagination in this one. I'll never take a mushroom for granted again, but stop and have a chat.
Sometimes just a smile or a nod of acknowledgement is enough to put a smile on their faces .. Cheers Bella .. Neville
Well talk to them proper then... say 'hello me old fruit ....'
Made me think............................ 'delicious'!
Consider it done .. Cheers Dave .. Neville
Don’t let the vegans hear this one LOL GREAT POEM
