Escape

Jack Winsley

I left the comfort of my home

And ran away to be alone.

I walked the shore down by the sea

And just my footprints followed me.

I heard the sea and saw its spray

Wash up the beach then roll away.

I heard the call of sea birds high

And watched them soaring in the sky.

I felt the breeze upon my hair

And drank the sweet cool evening air.

Then as the sun sank out of sight

And daylight vanished into night

I turned around and walked away

And dreamed that one day I could stay.

I love the way that the reader is left with a bit of doubt as to whether staying means changing a dream to reality or changing reality to a dream. Nicely done.
