Today I Saw a Rainbow

today i saw a rainbow.
it stretched all the way across the sky in a nearly perfect arch. 
each color was vivid and distinct.

but they blended together in a gradient fading from one shade to the next.

the children pointed at it and ooh’ed. 
their mother said “I wonder if we’ll see it from the sky?”

their eyes shone with wonder and marveled at its beauty. 

i smiled silently, taking in the view.

today i saw a rainbow.
and for the first time in a while, i felt just a tiny bit of hope.
