You Look Happier

Cam

Thank you—dear friends,
Behind these colorful eyes,
Behind the crooked smile,
You’ll find the girl who has no more will to live.

The one who misses the person she can’t have,
The one who made her feel loved,
But not like others—
A love so raw it bled into each other’s veins,
Saw the worst, and still held on.

She wears hope like a mask,
Pretending to go through the motions
With a smile she doesn't feel,
Fighting to live another day,
Wishing she could hold on just a little longer.

The one she can no longer be with,
But her family and friends,
Couldn’t see past the cracks he left,
Couldn’t see the love beneath the pain.
They watched him tear her apart
From the outside in,
Leaving a heart shattered,
And a soul drained of will.

All these posts,
All these lies,
The pictures of joy—
A propaganda,
A foolish attempt to hide behind
A world that doesn’t see
What’s really breaking her.

So if you’re reading this,
Know this:
I’m not okay,
But I have to pretend to be.

Ambivalence and distraction help as well. Beautifully rendered with excellent imagery and a haunting poignancy. Thank you for sharing.
