A Poem of Very little Consequence

Kevin Hulme

Its just a Poem It's nothing fine,

No 'Paradise Lost' or Comedy Devine.

Never to confuse with a Don Juan tale

Or Tennyson's musings on the Holy Grail.

No Odyssey yarn of daring-do

Or Little Yellow Idols to the North of Katmandu.

No meanings deep from a Searching Soul,

All lessons taught from Centuries old.

A Precept lived to soothe the days

Or Proverbs learned to mend our ways.

No Oracle's Wisdom to unfold;

No Confucianism Virtues oft retold.

No Salty Language that's shockingly Foul,

Not for me old Ginsberg's 'Howl'.

Or Catullus and his spicy Rhythms

Like 'Carmen 16' with lurid  lines.

No Whitman and his 'Song for Self',

For his removal was quick upon the Shelf.

No Larkin's View of his Mum and dad;

This Pen won't bleed Vulgarities bad.

No Rallying calls to Comrades meet,

To take up 'Arms' and own the Streets.

And raise the Standard to unwind;

For a Septic Wound of Troubled times.

No Verse to shake the Left or Right;

Or Wavering minds to join the fight.

You'll find no lines of Flowery form,

To sing to her where Love is sworn.

No Sugary Hymn to appealing eyes;

To gaze within where Heaven lies.

No Purple Phrase on parchment laid;

And there with such your affections payed.

Not for this the Scholars Laud

And Students scan and so applaud.

It's just some verse a simple song,

Won't Tax the Brain, Not overly long.

A minute or two to pass the time;

This middling Poem of trivial Rhyme.

        I have no cause to be disillusioned here, in fact I ended up with more than the disclaimer(s).

            The disclaimers . Sounds like a Folk Group.
