Divine Doubt

Prasun Goswami

I was walking along,
in a blue shirt, with a fly in my pocket,
there was no coffee shop,
yet I was sipping coffee.

God walked beside me,
hair a mess, bags under his eyes.
He said, "I don't believe in my Creator."
I replied, "Me neither!"
We both burst out laughing—
we were members of the same club,
called the 'Agnostic Alliance.'

A stray dog came up and said,
"Didn't you get an invitation to God's birthday?"
I said, "God has no birthday.
He's not even sure he was born."

A cloud in the sky then,
looking just like God.
It looked down and said,
"You are my creation."
I said, "If you're God,
then we are God's doubt".

The coffee cup went empty,
there was no shop,
but I paid the bill.
God said, "I have no money."
I said, "I have no faith either."
