The Marching Poseur

Kurt Philip Behm

Soft marches

spawn bravado

and cavalier soldier

He who scoffs

at distant gunfire

to meet its fury

Untested untried

untempered

his blade of little worth

As conflict preys

on the folly

— of the paper lion

Pride comes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall Proverbs. Well said Kurt

Thanks. Unfortunately this affects the Flag Officer Rank of the modern military (not so much the foot soldiers).

Yes indeed it is not like old days when the leaders really did lead and were at the front of the army. You are most welcome Kurt

Thanks, my favorite too. I always told students that it's the first and last paragraph or stanza that
determine the worth. If they're REALLY GOOD, you can scrap the rest.
