No worries

sorenbarrett

If you want a happy life marry an ugly wife
There will be no suspicion over her exhibition
Whatever she wears, will get no lusty stares
So relax smugly, marrying a woman that's ugly

Women your move of stealth is stay away from wealth
Marry a man that's too poor to hire even a two bit whore
Safe is a man that's weak, one that looks like a geek
A husband that you can hold is one that for sex is too old

So don't think that your shit don't stink
That you can hold on to one that will soon be gone
Let's be secure about a relationship that will endure
Despite your friend's taunts pick someone no one wants

Thank you Neville for your support and kind words. I too lucky but after many years of such luck one just has to reflect on the reality of it all with a laugh of course.

The safe lizards are the ones with the longest lives and tails… they live to tell so many tales as well.

      • sorenbarrett

Thank you Cryptic yes indeed and many times they loose their tails to predators to save their life. The murador leaves with only a wriggling tail, not much of a meal. Appreciate your kind words and support

          Most welcome dear Soren 🕊️🙏

        • Tony Grannell

          Dear, Soren,

Now I know why my wife married me, and there was I, thinking I was handsome. A poem full of sound advice though never given, rendered forth with dollops of humour and awkward truths.

          Wishing you all the best,

          Tony.

          • sorenbarrett

Thanks Tony I the same found this inspired by reflections of why I was chosen. I appreciate deeply your review and kind words have a wonderful day

          • Friendship

I enjoy your sense of humor in the morning it made me chuckle! 😂
The poem revolves around the notion of security in relationships. It suggests that marrying someone who is not conventionally attractive (an "ugly wife") or financially poor can lead to a more stable and less complicated relationship. The poem implies that such choices can help avoid jealousy, insecurity, and societal pressures. It focuses on unconventional views of love and marriage, challenging societal norms regarding beauty and wealth.

            • sorenbarrett

Thank you Friendship I appreciate your understanding of this bit of verse and the deeper understanding that goes behind its silliness. Have a great day my friend

              • Friendship

                You're most welcome, my friend.

              • Tristan Robert Lange

Soren, this lands with biting humor and bitter truth. The rhymes cut sharp, mocking how love gets twisted into status and appearance. That closing turn sticks hard—dark, witty, and honest. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛ Truthfully, the script could be flipped to men picking the "right" woman. Either way, the satire works and if it rubs a few the wrong way...so be it. That's what satire is for! A must fave from me.

                • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much for the read and kind words of support my friend it is always deeply appreciated

                  Nice poem ...
Good poem on a happy relationship
But women worship bravery, and she loves a powerful man and a man wants beauty....

                  • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much for the read and kind words you are right that that is what men and women want but as Greek mythology portrays from Zeus and Athena down fidelity does not come with bravery or beauty. I guess some get lucky I was always lucky

                    • Priya Tomar

                      You are most welcome.

                    • orchidee

                        • orchidee

I should have married Felicity instead - who's she!? lol

                            • Fína Elara 🌙 Petra Patrice

This poem has a sharp, satirical edge, it plays with irony while touching on themes of insecurity, relationships, and social judgment. Love the Rhyme of life / wife gives it a catchy, memorable sound.
Paradox / Irony; It suggests happiness comes from marrying someone society might consider “undesirable,” which flips expectations. Satire is humorously critiques shallow standards of attraction and relationship insecurity. Honestly shocking, but nicely written.

                              • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much Petra for the review and understanding. Yes it is satirical in nature and does poke fun at societal standards but also at the elements that are looked at by individuals as desirable qualities for a partner, physical beauty, money, power, youth all that should be secondary considerations in the selection of a mate.

                              • NinjaGirl

Hahaha maybe I will end up in a relationship by this logic! =D in all silliness, there is some truth to this, but I'm not sure I totally agree

                                • sorenbarrett

Not to mean that it is meant to be taken totally serious some of us have been lucky but enough truth to make one think. Thank you so much for your review and comment it is as always appreciated

                                • Kevin Hulme

I think it was Serge Gainsourg who said ' Ugly is better than Beauty because it's does not fade' .
All in all a fine Poem.

                                  • sorenbarrett

Thank you Kevin a great quote. I appreciate your read and thoughts on this satiric piece.

                                  • Keeter C

Words of humor and wisdom why is it I continually fly too high or to close to the flame. Never understanding which is my lane or the league in which I belong.
A very fun read and nicely done!

                                    • sorenbarrett
