Walking My Own Path

Tom Dylan

Notice of absence from Tom Dylan
*I WILL BE UNAVAILABLE THE FIRST TWO WEEKS IN OCTOBER 25*
Sorry if there is a delay in responses. Sometimes life gets in the way. As John Lennon said, life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

I am trying to walk my own path,

barefoot through the dirt,

avoiding the boot prints and tyre tracks.

I’m trying to walk my own path,

humming to myself a half-remembered tune,

while others sing to me at the top of their voices.

I am trying to walk my own path,

meandering though flaming autumn meadows

rather than hallowed university halls.

I am trying to walk my own path,

one word, one sentence, one story,

one poem, at a time.

Admirable independence is a strength. So hard to walk one's own path where every square inch has been stepped on before, every word spoken, every thought, thought. A struggle felt in this poem. Nicely done Tom

That is exactly it, Soren. Trying to weave your path and still stay true to yourself. It is a tight-rope. Thanks so much for your comments as always.

        You are most welcome

Sometimes potentially agreeable companions may have to be distanced from if the social pressures of conformity become too great. (Can't see that happening to you though, Tom).

Thanks, Dave. Yeah, there is pressure isn't there, to write a certain way, or take on a certain style. I have been to open mic nights, and they all start to sound the same eventually. I just stick to ripping off John Cooper Clarke. 😀

Go for it Tom - you know what you are doing.👍

            • Tom Dylan

Haha, yeah, these boots are made for writing!!

Yes, what's the point in being like everyone else.
' No one I think is in my Tree' as John sang, because he knew he was different.
              Well Said.

Spot on, Kevin. And love the Lennon quote! Cheers, Tom.

Yes, Tom…I’ve walked that same way myself, choosing meadows and words over the prescribed paths. You’ve voiced it beautifully. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️
