Greater love hath no man

sorenbarrett

One's life to give so another can live, nearly the greatest gift of all
A mother's sacrifice to infant, unknown even when grown, let alone when small
The greatest forfeiture made, in ignorance's shade, no sun to be adored
A hero known, for another, can not atone, glory is its own reward
Greater still the poison pill of taking on the villain's name
To save someone, one must become, the one to take the blame
A scryer to draw the fire, a perceived liar in infamy to retire
A treasure to rest within a locked chest, wearing a crown of a briar
Never to be known love's groan, hidden from mortal eyes
Invisible love, wearing a scurrilous glove, salvation in disguise

  • Friendship

Well written. This poem explores the theme of sacrifice and the complexities of love, particularly the lengths one might go to for the sake of another. It highlights the idea that true love often involves selflessness and taking on burdens, even to the point of personal ruin or misunderstanding.

Forgive me dearest sorrenbarret but I see this as a rape poem, one that a women takes the greatest sacrifice, grows a life and gives to another as a gift, regardless of her torture. Kudos my friend. 🌹

Soren, this is weighty and profound. The layers of sacrifice you trace...from mother to martyr to hidden love...this feels raw, unvarnished, and deeply human. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛ Well done!
