carpe diem

lunarchloedip

i am barely breathing

for laughter

hysterical

inconsolable

i look at him

and he is laughing too

setting up his switch

to play mario kart

while the ending of dead poets society

is blaring on his screen

and when i showed him

he said

“i like this movie”

now

he is lying next to me

syncing controllers

and handing me my favourite colour

before looking me in the eyes

and assuring me

that he will win the races

the only race

i have ever cared about

is the one to find you

to make you love me

before anyone else

snatches up the chance

I was scared of you, at first

writing love poems I was too afraid to share
reciting them monotonously
in hopes it would dim the fire
excalibur hidden in a sheath
love for you stored deep within me

But I stand on my desk
turn my socks inside-out

I try to see things differently

I could have stayed scared
but carpe diem

A face like yours

Is too beautiful to pass by

i will win these races too

and when i say this to you

your face

breaks into a competitive grin

And I am preparing

For my victory

Paired with a barbaric yawp

silly owen

you get my heart going

i am a dead poet

with controller in-hand

trained in both racing

and the ability to understand

and you

are mine.

Robin Williams and the dead poet society. I hear it in this poem. Fear is a major motivator but need not be. Very nice
