What is up with people!
Cricket has been played,
Played there for over two hundred years,
But because a ball hit a person,
Hit them on the leg,
The council has banned it,
Banned it from being played.
What is up with people nowadays?
It is like when people complain,
They move into a village
And then complain,
Complain about the Church bells.
So many people seem to have problems
Problems that many have lived with,
Lived with them all their lives
And had no bother with them,
Acceptance for the normal no longer exists.
So many want things their own way
And resent the normal no more.
What is wrong with society,
This new society being born
That wants it all their own way
And not accept the norm.

- Comment from author about the poem: I saw this on the news: "An Essex village has had cricket 'banned' after a person was allegedly hit on the back of the leg by a ball. It has sparked fears that the village's long-standing cricket club "will be finished" due to not having somewhere to play. Cricket was suspended at Dawson Fields in Danbury, near Chelmsford, in May after an incident was recorded in which a member of the public was hit on the leg by a ball. No players had any recollection of the alleged incident." What is up with people!

Good write Gold.
Thanks Orchi.
You know the old saying; "There's nowt as queer (update: 'strange') as folk" doncha?
Wasn't in one of Mr Murdoch's publications, was it?
So true Dave.
Apparently it was the parish council that banned cricket.
Andy
But who reported on the parish council, Andy?
An incident that is in a way an allegory for all the incidents in modern society of political correctness and hypersensitivity that we must remember we created in the generation of our children and grandchildren giving too much creating feelings of entitlement, self centeredness and expectations that are beyond the reasonable. By telling them they are all special and that if they are not a super star or celebrity it is not their fault but society's we have created a monster with insatiable appetite. Good write Gold
Such very true words soren, In this day and age there are no such things as 'accidents' as if something happens people seem to be taught that they could make money from it.
Andy
This could stop all wars immediately. The thought of getting shot, wow, just not on.
No doubt some jobsworth in the council has overdone his job again.
So true Paul, thank you for your understanding words.
Andy
Your poem revolves around the critique of modern society's tendency to prioritize individual preferences over communal traditions and norms. It highlights a growing intolerance for longstanding practices, suggesting that contemporary people often seek to change or eliminate aspects of culture and community that have historically been accepted.
So very true Friendship, people are always looking for somebody to blame nowadays to try and get money out of them. Thank you for your understanding words.

I read about this, they have been asked to install 20ft fencing around the whole ground which would cost 150,000 pounds, absolutely ridiculous. Another programme I watched was a fishing port in cornwall, where the people with second homes there, complained of the smell of fish near there expensive apartments, so the fishermen had to move there landing yard to a different area, the world only panders to the few now, have a great weekend
Thank you for your words Tobani, the few seem to be winning in our world.
Andy
