Perfume of war

sorenbarrett

Dog eating a dead cat
Hog carcasse engorges rat
Savor the taste
Flavor of waste
Flies drone over bone and meat
Be sure to weigh the ones you eat
Breathe in the dripping stench
Vulture clouds, shadows blocking sun, fall in a drench
Shroud becomes a revenant's shawl
Perfume of a dead rose covers all

Your poem revolves around the grotesque and brutal realities of death and decay, particularly in the context of war. It reflects on the aftermath of violence, highlighting the visceral consequences and the pervasive stench of mortality that lingers in the environment. The poem suggests a cycle of life and death, where the natural world consumes the remnants of life, and beauty is overshadowed by horror.

Soren, this reads like a gothic prayer to decomposition...graphic, rhythmic, and strangely reverent. You caught the poetry in decay perfectly, my friend. A must fave! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

You are very kind my friend and it is most appreciated. Indeed it is a decomposition of all things a type of entropy that war and death provides.

Just think: after the war where the dog eats the cat, comes the lion laying down with the lamb.
