Genocide

NafisaSB

The genocide is there for all to see

Some survive, others flee

The havoc is great

The indifference greater

Where there were roads

There’s now a crater

Orphans screaming

Mothers weeping

No one can cope

They have lost all hope

But the greed for land

And absolute power

Makes the helpless

Shudder and cower…

Where is this headed

And will it ever end ?

It looks as if minds

Have gone around the bend..

Few listen, and do their share

And their hearts, souls

And pockets - do bare

Aid is given

To the stricken

But that is grabbed

And powerless are nabbed

It’s a grim scenario

And scary to see

Imagine if you can

That it’s happening to you or me…

Then you will wonder

When things are torn asunder

How days keep rolling on

And conscience has quit and gone…

This has happened several times in the past and probably will happen again and again. There is fear in this poem. Nicely done

    • NafisaSB

thank you - it is such a sad state of affairs that one cannot even hope , and it's so hard to cope

      • sorenbarrett

You are most welcome. It is a sad state of affairs but there is always hope until life leaves

      • Poetic Licence

A sad and haunting write of what is happening in front off our eyes, heartbreaking to watch any killing so visibly displayed, well written

        • NafisaSB

it has been continuing down the ages - man's greed is immense, and the effects disastrous - but, the future seems quite bleak

          • Poetic Licence

            Totally agree

            • NafisaSB

it fills me with dismay every time i read about it / watch it on the news ; am glad at least in the middle east there seems to be some signs of conciliation

When the free press is not allowed into countries to report, you just know genocide is happening.
Sadly, the countries that should be shouting appear to be quiet.

              • NafisaSB

and even where the press is allowed, they too are targeted and mercilessly killed..very sad indeed - and most of the leaders lack the guts to speak up against it

              • Neville

Yes absolutely .. sadly but oh so truly poemed .. I have a feeling these words were just dying to be set free and spoken out loud .. Neville

true - this has been preying on my mind - sometimes i feel guilty about having a truly good normal life, when there is so much suffering around; then thank God for all i have.

                • Tristan Robert Lange

Safina, this is both lament and mirror...each line demanding we look closer, care deeper. You’ve captured humanity’s fracture with raw clarity and heart. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                  • NafisaSB

it's a cry from my heart - and am glad it's being heard - thank you so much

                  • Doggerel Dave

You've really got up close and personal to the state of the world and humanity, haven't You ? Great write Nafisa.

                    • NafisaSB

yes, it touches me, and I feel helpless and sad that here i am cocooned safely while there is so much suffering going on in the world that i can do nothing about but lament..
thank you so much for the appreciation - have a good week ahead

                      • Doggerel Dave

So true Nafisa, maybe one day love and peace will come to all the world.

Amen to that from the depths of my heart - one can only hope despite what's going on...

Wealth and power are great bedfellows. We choose to call them divine or devil depending on circumstances

                          • NafisaSB

if they are used for the good of mankind, it's divine; but that is not what we see around, unfortunately - it's being sorely misused
