A Sonnet from the Gutter

AuburnScribbler

Hear my words, heed my wisdom,

from cigarette butt, that’s been pissed on,

I’m your pain, suck me in,

to ensure, both loss and win,

double-standard, twice the price,

a human life, is made of vice,

crush me out, then replace,

with the same old; sordid chase,

of broken dreams, stink the house,

not so pure, you cosmic mouse,

a hollow crown, goes up in smoke,

both wizened slack and new boy woke,

it’s not my fault, I’m man-made,

though I blacken lung, you make the shade!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Another bit of surrealist reflection here, quite like a previous poem of mine entitled "Coke Can", though, instead of a coke can speaking, you have a very damp cigarette butt telling the story in a more authoritative tone. Again, we really do need to improve our operation as a species, I hope that you enjoy this sonnet, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

A personification of a cigarette speaking to a person (but I take it society) that we have not the wisdom to do what is best for us and in fact do exactly what will be the end of us. A warning and caution to be more cognizant of what we do.

Thanks for the read and for your lovely words sorenbarett, they are very much appreciated, and you have certainly got the gist of the message.

I hope that all is well.
