Insomnia of life

sorenbarrett

I have longed for sleep well before the shadows fell
Sweet slumber, home of dreams, your fragrance's alluring smell
Bed of darkness, blanket of soft blackness, come cover tired eyes
Bury me away far from light of day, where thorns stinging lies lie in disguise
On a stone pillow of peace lay my head, to awaken nevermore
With covers of forgetfulness to erase all that happened before

Many a time I've gone to bed just to get rid of that day, hoping the next day would somehow cancel yesterday out.
Strangely enough, it never happened. I can see why people wear blinkers in the world now.

It aint gonna happen .. I aint gonna let it happen .. I've got ya back covered & if necessary am happy to prescribe a soothing balm or a pack of dubble strength nitrazepam or summat .. failing that & you wanna be totally independent .. I believe they might slip you some OTC Nytol at the local pharmacy .. All joking aside, I don't know anyone who hasn't felt similarly from time to time .. so keep ya chin up and write on . you do it so well .. Neville

Thank you my friend for the uplift in your review it is most appreciated. There are times when we all wish to retreat into dreams and not awaken and there are times when we feel that eternal dreams would be so peaceful. And if not the peace of blackness would be a sound sleep. Never the less as far as I know the messenger is running late and has left no message of his time of arrival.

This poem is about the struggle with insomnia—an inability to find peace or rest in life. It captures a universal human experience, resonating with anyone who has felt overwhelmed by their circumstances. The poem might be set in a contemporary context, focusing on the emotional and psychological challenges of modern living, where the pressures of life can lead to sleeplessness and a desire for escape. This poem could stem from a need to articulate and process these feelings of despair, highlighting the tension between the desire for escape through sleep and the harshness of reality.

This is a poem of beautiful unease. Sleep and death blur into one gentle gesture...the soul asking for silence, not escape. You make stillness feel holy, Soren. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

I see a sad longing and tiredness - as if fed up with the lies and the deceit around you - many of us do get that feeling sometimes - but I hope that it does not deter you from awakening with hope every new day that dawns..
