Tune: Franconia
('Blest are the pure in heart')
John 14 v.14-17
***********
Jesus said, If you do
Love me, sincere and true
Keep my commandments, what I say
I be the Life, Truth, Way
And I will pray unto
The Father, and He to
You shall give another to stay
With you, even alway
Another Comforter*
To sister and brother
The Holy spirit, so shall He
You Helper ever be
He be the Paraclete**
Though the world not Him greet
Nor know Him, but for you He shall
With [you], and in you, e'er dwell
----
* Comforter can include the meanings of 'solace' and 'strengthen'.
** Paraclete - one called alongside to help.

Very nicely done Orchi this hymn takes scripture to song again and is worthy to be sung in any cathedral, chapel or church.
Thank you SB. I said a 'goodbye' to one church - partly because they wouldn't sing any of my stuff. it had to be endless 'Chorus' type songs, sung about 500 times in a row - seemed like 500 anyway - and with repeats 2 or 3 weeks in a row! Sounds like some TV channels repeating! lol.
If having a wrong motive for church-going, we didn't get our 'money's-worth'. Being not humble, we say 'Hey, do you know how much I put in the collection today? I'm being short-changed!' lol.
You are welcome Orchi the money thing has put the brakes on church for me along with the hypocrisy
I was just about to google, Paraclete, when I noticed the footnote.
We all need a paraclete in our lives at some point.
Thank you P. Yes, though it makes us things of parakeet too! lol. Maybe they help us too as pets?!
Orchi, blessed be this aquatic gospel…Ol’ Tom's too tired to swim, Popeyeus cries (why?...don't answer that!) from the deep of his spinach can, and you’re there with a pen and a pint turning theology into folklore. Perfect methinks. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Is the Paraclete the competition that Ol' Tom lost in the Olympics? Just wondering? 🤣
Thank you T. Popeye still practising Latin? Don't answer that! lol.
LOL!
Phew! As requested, you didn't answer that! lol.
Well written, my friend, your poem is the promise of Jesus to send the Holy Spirit, referred to as the Comforter and Paraclete, to guide and support believers. This assurance emphasizes the importance of love, obedience to commandments, and the continuous presence of divine support in the lives of followers.
Thank you F. Some sensible comments among daft banter with some poets here!
Timely, there is so much need for/of consoling. Cheers O🕊️🙏
Thank you A.
Good one Orchi.
Thank you Gold.
