It's not that I fear death won't come but he is running late
And the meal is growing cold on the plate

Beautifully reverted, the fear of death not coming vs the usual - that he comes!

It was a bit like a sharp needle strike, reading this. Both because it is so laconic (even my comment is longer), and because I used to see death as a woman - in Russian language the word for Death is Смерть, and it is a female word.

Thank you Victor for your read of this short. English is a punishing language that only allows male of female unlike German that has a neuter case. Neuter only allowed as implied plural (they). I forced to choose between male and female picked male but she would work just as well and I have no problem with being female in which case I see her as a kind mother figure or a most alluring seductive companion.

Nicely put! One mother lets us out - clean and innocent, the other accepts us back in her womb, with our sins and deeds.

Oh, that struck home quite solidly! A superb poem here, Soren! 🙏🕊️

Complexity of the Germanic death .
It can be neutral ( Das Sterben )
            Masculine ( Der Tod )
            Female ( Die Todesart )
            Depending on the context ...

Growing old does not mean the death is approaching near
It wont run late just because deep down the heart you have the fear
Age bar is not the criteria for the ultimatum my dear
It wont get cold when in a plate you have a ripe pear

Ah, death waits for no man, and so it seems not even the meal.
