Adapted with permission, from Arqios' poem
'Eleventh Hour Remembrance'
Tune: The Supreme Sacrifice
('O valiant hearts')
**********
The vineyard calls even at fading light
The last are welcomed to employers* sight
No wage is lost, no price, no soul denied
The master's mercy gracious turns the tide
At trenches' edge, the clocks they did align
The eleventh hour, it drew its sign
Guns fell silent, faltering breath was stayed
A fragile peace, armistice at last made
So numbers bind both in war and in word
The Gospel's grace, the bugle sound is heard
From vineyards rows and unto fields of clay
We mark the hour, and we bow to pray
----------
* The 'employer' is the owner of the vineyard.

I like this one Orchi it varies from the traditional hymn and seems dedicated to ending of war. What better goal for any religion or any people that this. Lovely
Thank you SB. Not my original work (see explanatory note at the start of poem).
No more wars, the byword to peace.
Maybe for a time it rang true, but not in today's world.
Thank you P.
I think heβs called a vintner πππ»ποΈ
Thank you A. Now what rhymes with vintner?!
winter? As in the winter of our sour warmed by the fruit of the vine, exquisitely pressed by the vintnerπ
Thank you A. No problem really, as 'employer' also rhymes with vintner - both end in 'errrr'!
A splendid write, Orchi.
Thank you J.
Orchi, this flows with reverence and melody...Scripture, memory, and music blending into one act of grace. Truly moving work, my friend. Just for proper warning though:
Popeye says, "After the rembrance at 11, steer clear the observance at 12." Why? Don't ask! Glug glug! π€£ πΉπ€ππ―οΈπ¦ββ¬
Thank you T. Not all my own work though.
Meanwhile - dang that Eyepop, that eye-popping, spinach-guzzling menace. We\'re dreading 12 o\'clock but can\'t say why. heehee. Didn\'t we just know he had to interfere! lol.
ποΈ Of course! Who else can, really, After all Ol\' Tom and his noodle and SpongeBob playing...don't finish that...Ruh Roh! LOL! You are most welcome, my friend. Truly loved the hymn-poem, those screwballs aside! LOL!
Very impressive .. and correspondingly enjoyed πππ
Thank you N.
