Pushover

Paul Gerard Reed

'A pushover' I heard you say

We'll take him in a day

'We'll drown him in his fears'

But it's been nearly twenty five years;

Even today you are still trying

To make me think I'm dying

Keep a-knocking on my door

To see if I can take some more;

You've spent all this time

Carrying out your crime

But you found in me

A most formidable enemy;

There you stand, apologetic

You really are pathetic

I bet you wish you'd never begun

You should have turned tail and run;

'Cos you would never have got beat

You could have avoided defeat

You could have been free

If you hadn't set eyes on me.

    A poem of defiance and in powerful form indeed. A fun read well worded.
