Happy Birthday Dad.

Goldfinch60

One hundred years ago,

One hundred years ago today

He came into the world,

The man who created my life,

My life full of love and respect.

He never told me off,

Never hurt me

Except that day he passed,

Passed from my life.

He gave me so much,

So much in my life

But mostly he gave me music.

Music has always been in my life

Thanks to that wonderful man,

A true gentleman in my world.

Such sadness when he passed,

Passed thirty years ago.

But he is still in my life

And will never leave me.

So I say to him

Happy Birthday Dad,

May your celebration in heaven

Be filled with love and music.

  • Comment from author about the poem: My Dad would have been 100 years old today, he died in September 1995, he died two months before his seventieth birthday. A man who taught me good manners and respect, a true gentlemen in my life. The music is what we played at both his and Mum's funeral. At Mum's funeral I would have sworn that I saw them dancing to the tune.

A beautiful tribute Andy. Mine too passed many years ago and would have been 106 next month. He was a music lover too. So I feel your words in this poem. Nicely said Andy

Great tribute to your dad, and even more refreshing, someone who shaped your life the way proper parents are meant to do.
