Thankful Thoughts

orchidee

... 'for all things come of you, and of your own have we given you' (1 Chronicles 29 v.14).

(also part of a Collect = Formal prayer)

Tune: Nun Danket

('Now thank we all our God')

1 Chronicles 29 v.10-16

**********

One of King David's prayers

One of his last ones he shares

With us, says, Blessed be you

Lord God our father, e'er true

Yours, Lord, is the greatness

And the power, we bless

You, yours be the glory

And too the victory

And lasting majesty

For all in heaven and earth be

Yours, and yours truly we

Acknowledge your kingdom be

You are exalted o'er

All things for evermore

Both honour and riches

Come from you, sure is this

And over all you reign

In your hand we do see plain

That therein is power

And might through every hour

And you are able to

Make great, give strength anew

Now therefore thanks we give

To you, praise, you e'er live

We praise your glorious name

It be of an endless fame

But who are we, so small

That you should deign to give all?

All this store for Temple

Building, here given all

Unto us by your hand

Solomon shall build grand [Temple]

My knowledge being sketchy. Did he build the temple.
Great flow in words and gets me thinking I need to read up in my gospel.

Thank you Paul. It's Old Testament. Solomon, David's son, actually oversaw the building of the Temple - he of the temperament who was led astray later in life by 'many strange women!' Ooh! You know any strange ones? lol.

      • Paul Bell

Most of the woman I know are strange.

'Poor' old Solomon, though the world's richest person of that day and age. He had about a thousand women around him! A naughty joke is 'What can a man never understand?' The answer is: 'A woman's mind!' heehee. Some wag said that originally.

And so Solomon did build it only to have it destroyed and have to be rebuilt but even grander the second time. A wonderful hymn my friend

We engage in monumental (yay! that's a good word) and profound examinations of world affairs when you manage to dig a tunnel out from under that great pile of hymn books...Oh orchi, orchi I miss your cutting perspective and expansive reach when it comes to the secular world....
