Remember Reliance

orchidee

Tune: St Anne

('O God our help in ages past')

2 Chronicles 16 v.7-9

*********

Hanani the prophet came to

King Asa, said, To you

I have a message from the Lord

Attend, now hear His word

Because you on Syria's king

Relied, that he help bring

To you, and did not rely on

The Lord, enemies have won

Therefore the Syrian army

Has escaped now, so be

Were not the Ethiopians huge

Host, descended [as] deluge

Yet because you did on the Lord

Rely, trusted His word

He gave that host into your hand

And saved you and the land

For the eyes of the Lord run to

And fro through whole earth so

To show Himself strong unto they

Who trust Him in their day

They whose hearts are perfect toward

Him, loyal to their Lord

At peace with Him, not turn away

Rely on Him alway

---------

Note: King Asa of Judah turned to the King of Syria for help against the King of Israel and his army.

Syria can be seen as one of the enemy nations, as was Israel, since that time that Israel and Judah separated into two kingdoms.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.6.8.6. A follow on from yesterday's poem. Bit late for Remembrance Day hymn but remembering is a theme of today's poem here. In verse 5 it is 'to and fro', not 'to and from'. (no typo).

That's right Orchi I had forgot that part that Israel and Judah had separated and were two groups. I wonder who would win now days if the Jews fought the Israelites. This was a good one Orchi you jogged the old memory.

Thank you SB. Weren't we there in person at the time, us two? heehee.

      • sorenbarrett

It sure seems that way but with the years my memory gets a bit foggy

Didn't we write lots of poems about the dinosaurs, you and I? lol.

          • sorenbarrett

Yes Orchi looking at the site the way it is now you and Gold have three times the number of poems as I and as many reads with far more for Gold but it does seem that we three are the older ones on the planet. I have dinosaurs where I am now A five foot monitor paid me a visit a couple of days ago.

            • orchidee

I thought you meant a five foot PC monitor - those huge screens from years ago that looked like TV sets. Still in use in places today? A wife called her hubby a dinosaur cos he wouldn't use e-mail though he did know how to use it. He turned monk-like and bit remote. Oohh!

              Love your history narratives.
I must admit, I've never heard of the prophet, Hanani, or King Asa, but now I have.
Just for that, I'll slow down on Sunday when I run past the church.

              • orchidee

Thank you Paul. Some folk are hidden in Old Testament (OT) books. I don't know those people socially, the ones in my poems. lol. There's 1 and 2 Chronicles in the OT. Book 1 is largely lists of names, then Book 2 moves on to more historical details of some folk.
Have ya met Hanani and Asa in person? heehee.

Orchi, you shape this passage into something that feels sung… steady rhythm, steady trust… and it lands with a peaceful kind of conviction. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛ Wait? Can you hear that? The chugg..oh no...that's not chugging...it's glugging! Dammit, can he ever stay away?

                • orchidee

Thank you T. Dang it! That chugging, glugging pest. We knows what he remembers - he never forgets it! lol.

                    I know, right!?!?! LOL!

                    • orchidee

Ain't nothing much else he remembers. Why he remembers an unmentionable thing 99% of the time! heehee.

                        For realz!
