Tune: St Timothy
('O Holy Ghost, thy people bless')
Psalm 115 v.1-8
**********
Not unto us, O Lord, not to
Us, but glory to you
Unto your name, for your mercy
And truth which ever be
Why should the nations say, Where is
Now their God? Show us this
But we show that you our God be
Living eternally
Our God is in the heavens, and
Has so done by His hand* (*His Spirit)
Whatever He has pleased, and none
Can gainsay it, not one
The nation's idols silver be
And gold their treasury
The works of men's hands, mouths have they
But speak not any day
Eyes they have, but they do not see
Ears too, but completely
Hear not, and they have hands, but they
Are inactive alway
Noses they have, but they not smell
No scentings can they tell
Feet they have, but they do not walk
Have mouths, but do not talk
They that make idols are like them
They lifeless among men* (*mankind)
So are they that trust in them, though
We the living God know

This one a hymn and poem of proclamation it rings out in rhyme. Very nicely done Orchi loved it
Thank you SB. Did you think the theme refer to folk entering some churches - but not all churches?! We might feel like yelling 'Anyone alive in 'ere?' But then they would boot us out! lol.
You're welcome Orchi yes indeed as a kid I would look around and see everyone sleeping in the pews and even my father needing to be poked once in a while when he snored. (He would start and say "what are you doing I was just concentrating") People would only wake up to sing the hymns and we called them resurrection songs because they would wake the dead.
Well written, powerful. I enjoyed reading it.
Thank you K.
The best part of church is definitely the hymns.
The sinning part where they shout, and you always think it's you they're pointing too, is a bit off-putting.
Glad I've got god on my side.
Thank you Paul. Yes, there are literal Bible-bashers - some preachers, that is. I'm not keen on 'altar calls' as in 'Come out to the front if you want a prayer, or whatever'.
Great job Orchi! By the title, I thought you were differentiating between gluggers and knitters if you catch my...never mind! 🤣
Thank you T. Popeye & Co could take over and become obsessions! Oops. lol.
LOL! I think they may already have! LOL! 😂
Beauty
Thank you Tom.
When I were young, I worked with an old bloke who summed up nicely far too many of the people around with the dismissal "They're dead but they won't lie down".
Doh! Why they say to me - 'Since when were you alive, Sir Orchi NS?' lol.
Now you have shot off into the realm of awkward improbability, orchi old chap.
Good one Orchi.
Thank you Gold.
well done..it resonates with one and all...
Thank you N.
