Sharks

Aman 12

Men are cast as sharks in the social sea,
with teeth of dominance, and fins of fear.
They circle the waters, eating up the fishes
yet most of the blood in the tide is their own.

Devour each other in currents of expectation
thrashing against waves that drag them down
Aching gills pressed with the weight of water
Every strike leaves the ocean darker than before.

Solitary hunters collapsing in reefs of peril
drifting through trenches where light can't reach.
Abyss is the bliss sought in struggle.
Ocean floor littered with shattered canines.

Ropes of kelp and jagged wreckage
pull them beneath without a sound.
Dissolving in undertows with synthetic veins
Stripped of livers rich with life.

Predator for sure, yet prey to greater jaws.
Soon the ecosystem will stumble.
And troubled waters will be filled with dinosaurs.

The metaphor is a great one that speaks loudly. The author's note was quite helpful in narrowing the meaning and putting the poem in context. Women encounter different hazards in life and with the women's movement in latter years their struggle has become more widely known. Men's story has been neglected in this tide lacks representation. Very nicely written

I enjoyed your well written poem. Very educational.

Your commentary made it for me. Each of your statistics could be woven into separate pins with the chance of separate solutions Your home page tells me nothing of whom you are.
        Poem retained my interest though.

Thank you for the read. You are right each stat deserves a poem on its own and I have written on it. I am not mysterious just a little socially anxious and awkward.

Does being a little socially anxious and awkward prevent you from providing some very basic information about yourself? A part cure might include "This is me - take it or leave it!"
