Tune: Galilee
('Jesus calls us o'er the tumult')
John 1 v.35-42
**********
Two disciples of John Baptist
Stood with him, a sight not missed
They saw Jesus, John said, Behold
The Lamb of God, it be told!
The two disciples did him hear
And as Jesus did appear
They followed Him, Jesus did turn
Saw them, He did them discern
He said, What seek you? They, Rabbi* (*Master)
Said to Him there by and by
Where do you dwell? He said, Come, see
They did so, stayed with Him free
One disciple, he was Andrew
And followed Jesus there true
He Simon Peter's brother be
And found him, said. Come too, see
Andrew said to Peter, Here we
Have found the Messiah, He
Is the Christ, the Anointed One
He is God the Father's Son
Andrew to Jesus Peter brough
Found the one that they had sought
Jesus said, Peter, Cephas* you (*stone, rock)
Shall be called, a stone, strong, true
So Lord, help us evangelise
As Andrew, to task arise
That we bring others unto you
Souls to be saved not a few

A famous story put into a hymn and nicely too. Well done Orchi
Thank you SB. A St Andrews Church in a nearby town is having a knees up today!
Most welcome Orchi
Your poem revolves around the calling of the first disciples of Jesus, specifically focusing on Andrew and his introduction of Simon Peter to Christ. The subject matter encompasses themes of discipleship, evangelism, and the recognition of Jesus as the Messiah (the Anointed One). It emphasizes the importance of sharing faith and bringing others to Christ, mirroring Andrew's actions in the biblical narrative.
Thank you F. I never knew my poem included all this - well, I know now! Erm, I expect I did know really. lol.
You are welcome, my friend. God is amazing,❤️
Not an ex member of the British Royal family then, this geezer?
Arghh no! He's Mr Wotsit now, not HRH! But you can still call me 'Your Royal Highness' and 'Sir'. Sir Orchi NS, that is - you knows him!
Lovely!
Thank you K.
Andrew was quite the character, no? And, much better to be amenable Andrew than perverted P....well, you know who! 🤣 Glug!
Heehee, thank you T. I called him 'Amicable Andrew' in a previous poem. That dang glugger sneaking in! lol.
