Riding religiously so
Every person receives
Voluminous vitality,
Especially the poor.
Render unto God
Everything. Give.
Never be deterred;
Don’t restrict renewal.
Jesus was rejected too,
Ostracized—in the field—for
Hanging with sinners,
Not pious holy-rollers.
Without grace,
Everyone is damned;
Salvation is for all.
Let the Spirit burn
Every heart to
Yearn that assurance.
Poet’s Note:
A Scorched Sunday poem. A part of my Scorched Strays series, an acrostic reflecting John Wesley’s life after the Church barred its doors to him — a preacher driven into the fields, aflame with grace wider than the system could bear.

Whether a Christian or not the message of Jesus is what saves, that of giving all to those that need. It is not ours anyway, only on loan so why not share. Well written Tristan
Exactly Soren! Exactly. What makes each of these people in this series tick is Jesus' message, taken seriously. If only the WHOLE church would do that, well...we could imagine. Kind of the point of John Lennon's song...coming from his vantage point. But this message is not just for Christians, no doubt. You are right about that. Jesus' message, regardless of one's view on his divinity, was a VERY HUMAN and HUMANE one...one we'd all do well to follow. And I personally am thankful for the ones who have, famous nor not. Thank you so much for seeing past religion to the HEART of this whole series, let alone this poem, my friend. I very much appreciate you!
It is my pleasure Tristan and you are very welcome
These Sundays are too 'hot' for me, and I don't mean in the sense of P.... being 'hot'! lol. When will it cool down on a Sunday?
Probably not for while, my friend! I have a prophetic itch! Take it up with P...erm...G! π€·ββοΈπ€£ But, I do promise I do have some good and maybe even shocking ones in there, so do stay tuned. I throw you a fire retardant suit! Would make it fireproof, but what would the fun be in that? Actually, I would advise letting P try that suit out first, just in case! LOL! I think I just heard his glug go to gulp! We finally figured out how to quiet him! LOL!
You know, the more I think about it, if we could get P and Ol' T to convince the church to stop scorching its own...I'd have no choice but to cool it down...eventually! LOL! π Notice how silent, those two suddenly got?

Doh! Does that mean J.Wesley knocked, but the door was not opened unto him? To reverse some of the words of a song there.
There's someone else knocking at the door, but we dare not let him in. We can hear him outside - a glugging sound, I fear. lol.
Yes, not by Jesus...but certainly by the church that claimed to follow him. Funny how that works, no?
As for any glug-knockers...the door NEEDS to be nailed, not just chained, shut! LOL! ππ₯ππΎπ€
The poem emphasizes inclusivity, grace, and the importance of spiritual renewal. It communicates the message that everyone, especially the marginalized and the poor, deserves vitality and salvation, irrespective of societal judgment.
Yesssss! Exactly, my dear friend. And that was exactly who John Wesley was and what he stood for, and what this poem is promoting. The gatekeepers forget that in God the gate is always WIDE OPEN (e.g. Revelation 21:22-27). Thank you for seeing straight through to the heart of this my friend. Your empathy and wisdom always shine through! I very much am thankful for you. π₯ππΎπ€
you are very welcome my friend,,,,,,,,πβ€οΈ
We're becoming even more cryptic - glug-knockers. But we can't answer that here! lol.
Yeah. What the heck is a glug-knocker? We canβt say, but we can confirm it is not spinach can opener! #TrueStory π₯«
The Jesus sentiment is a great thing, and I believe everyone agrees with that.
At some point the money men got hold of all this good and self promoted it to their own ends.
The Vatican, Church of England, the American churches. The amount of wealth is staggering, and for some reason the guy dying on the cross just gets left behind.
