Stories and Fables

Dan Williams

Fate fell like a cinderblock from the skies

resulting in my optimism’s cruel demise.

My Chesire Cat has lost its smile now,

shows no enthusiasm for a while now.

Silence punctuated by fits of complaining,

tears for which there is no real explaining.

repainting accentuates the darker parts.

Music only soothes in fits and starts,

stories and fables that once inspired,

whose circuitry now has been rewired.

Disbelief in what false prophets say,

this version the stone does not get rolled away.

Myths of closure finally revealed,

by fools like me whose fate seems sealed.

So many metaphors rolled into this poem that seems to speak out of discontent of the present situation. Nicely imaged

The poem explores themes of disillusionment, loss, and the struggle to find meaning in a world that feels chaotic and oppressive. It reflects on how once uplifting stories and fables have lost their power to inspire due to the harsh realities of life.
