Tune: Helmsley

('Lo, He comes with clouds descending')

Matthew 4 v.12-17

********

Now when Jesus heard that John [Baptist] be

Cast into prison, then He

Departed unto Galilee

There the people did Him see

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Prophecies with this agree

Leaving town of Nazareth He

Dwelt in Capernaum free

It be upon the sea coast there

They in the good news did share

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Saviour comes their sins to bear

It be on borders of Zabulon

And of land of Nepthalim {1}

The it might be fulfilled, spoken

By Isaiah unto men {2}

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Salvation came to them then

Prophecy was, The land, Zabulon

And the land of Nepthalim

By the way of the sea, beyond

Jordan, Galilee, hear sound

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Here the Lamb of God is found

Galilee of the Gentiles, you

People sat in darkness true

You have seen great light, and to they

In shadow of death the day

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Has dawned, sprung up, bright alway

From that time Jesus began to

Preach, saying, Repent, here view

The kingdom of heaven is near

The Light of life does appear

Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Worship now in godly fear

--------

{1} Isaiah 9 v.1-2

{2} Zabulon and Nepthalim were two northern tribes of Israel.

Enemy nations often attacked from the north, and so these regions

who were invaded first were the first to see Jesus the Light of the world.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7.7 with Alleluias. A bit tricky poem to write as there are 'extended' musical notes in some of the lines of the hymn. The poem may jar in a couple of places and seem a bit uneven.

And the story continues in this hymn. Nicely worded this hymn speaks in familiar biblical style. Very nice Orchi

Thank you SB. Historical notes added, or one may think Z and N are in, Oh I dunno, USA, UK, or wherever!

        Moat welcome Orchi

        • orchidee

Oops, forgot the hymn. Added it in now! A grandiose tune.

You keep this up, and I'll know more than the vicar soon.
Do vicars only work on a Sunday, could this be a career change for me.
Sundays used to be double time, is this still the case.

          • orchidee

Thank you P. Why yes, of course - they only work one day a week, and at double time! Heehee. Well, some may seem to, or would like to. It's naughty saying that really, as they tend their 'flock' and have church business matters, family matters, etc. Erm, they are human!
On the other hand, from olden days - working on a Sunday? Shock, horror - what next?!

          • Friendship

            Well written,

Dawning day 337's light as dusked and is now well...dark. That's how it works, no? Hello?

              Glug.

              😮‍💨

Orchi! Is that you in their messing around with the...💡

              Swoon.

              • orchidee

Thank you T. 337? Anything to do with Ol' Popeye?

                • Tristan Robert Lange

Well, just that yesterday was his 337th day of his year chugg...excuse me...glugging spinach. Does he ever take a break?

                  • orchidee

Doubt it! lol. Well, he is busy 23 hrs 59 mins of each day. That leaves him 1 min free per day!

                    • Tristan Robert Lange

Lol! What does he use that minute for? Wait...don't answer that!

                      • orchidee

I can partly answer that - ooh! The same as he spends the other 23hrs 59 mins?! heehee.

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

Whew! I almost forgot where I am. I swear I must have blacked out for a moment while commenting on this. All I remember before I swooned was some awful glugging in my ears and then suddenly I woke back up, post was already sent, but who sent it? We know who!. This is a full hymnal journey you’ve crafted here. I had to sit up, blink twice...as I was only seeing green for a minute...truly though…you put real care into this, and I can feel the devotion and craft in every line. Love it, Orchi! Thank you for those smelling salts. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

We gotta be careful this time of year - he's in disguise, that glugger! lol.

                          Good one Orchi.

nicely described - and the rhyme is there definitely...even if it seems wobbly to you...

                              Thank you N.
