Tune: Doncaster
('Put thou thy trust in God')
Matthew 15 v.1-9 parts
********
You hypocrites, well did
Isaiah* say, not hid
Said Jesus to scribes, Pharisees
The prophecy agrees
Which says, This people draw
Near to me, the Lord sure
Draw near with their mouth, and honour
Me with their lips demure
But their heart far it be
From me, but in vain, see
They do worship me, teaching for
Doctrines a worldly cure
For they teach, do make more
Of commands of men, for
They put aside God's commands, they
Trust to tradition's ways
-----
* Isaiah 29 v.13, though Isaiah himself does not actually say 'hypocrites'.

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.8.6. It starts on a sharp note (not a literal sharp music note!). Though there was worse. Some people even sacrificed their own children in a fire to gods in idolatry and then came and worshipped in God's Temple. There was punishment and judgement in Old Testament days, even to the extremes of cannibalism in long sieges. Parents had to eat their own children as there was nothing else to eat.

May well be off the intended base with this Orchi but to me this emphasizes the honoring of the letter of the law not the spirit. The loophole searchers and those that have no love in their hearts but instead greed and pride. If any of that fits I would find it a most refreshing hymn indeed. Loved it my friend
Thank you SB. Yes, it could include that.
You are most welcome my friend
Excellent write O🕊️🙏🏻
Thank you A.
Most welcome thou art, O🕊️🙏🏻
Comment from author about the poem: Bit of a shock to the system, that - just before my bedtime.....
Thank you D. I suppose it asks - do mouth and heart agree? Erm, bit different from my saying: 'I open my mouth and put my big foot in it!' lol.
They were making more of their traditions than of God's commands. The context is honouring parents. They tried to sneak out of that by saying to parents, 'Can't give you this gift - money, etc; got to give it to God in the collection'.
I have a funny feeling confusion leads to religion for some folks, but I ain't a going to fall for it..... so there.....!
I have a tradition. This is naughty, as it's going against the poem I've written here. My tradition is - 'All contributions greatly received - gimme yer dosh; I will put it in the collection for ya!' But will I do so, or will I keep it for myself? heehee.
Want a new title? Wot about Sir Orchidee Racketeer Extraordinaire...........
I knows they will give me their dosh when I gives them a Cheshire cat cute smile! lol.
Cor - when did ya last visit the dentist...?
(A stock phrase from my repertoire I pull out in certain dicey situations, though I must admit timing is crucial....)
Well written, my friend, God is amazing all the time,❤️
Thank you F.
Excellent hymn-poem, Orchi! Loving this series!
And...Mr. P is P'd because the SPinach had P in it and now he's got hoof and mouth, rather than mouth and heart! 🤷♂️🤣
Thank you T. Doh! That P and his antics! olol.
LOL! I am telling you, something new every glug...erm...moment!
Ooh. P's done a song: Here's a bit of it - or all of it!
Ohhh, we'll be gluggin' and a rockin'
Gluggin' and a rollin'
Can't stop, no minutes free
From the glug-glug glugging ways!
Well, maybe 1 minute per day to rest. heehee.
Good one Orchi.
Thank you Gold.
You have really done your research well. A most powerful denunciation of inhuman practices well represented
Thank you N.
