Tune: Winchester Old
('While shepherds watched their flocks by night')
Matthew 21v.1-5
*********
Jesu and His disciples drew
Near Jerusalem, knew
When they reached Bethphage, came unto {1}
Mount of Olives anew
Jesu sent two disciples to
The village said, There you
Shall find a donkey and colt too
There you shall sure them view
Bring them to me, if any say
What do you do this day?
Say to them that the Lord has need
Of them, to me them lead
All this done that the prophecy
Of Zechariah, see {2}
Might be fulfilled, saying, Behold
Let this sign now be told
Tell you the daughter of Zion
Judah's city the one
Look, your king he comes unto you
In meek procession true
Lowly, sitting upon donkey
A war-horse it not be
And her colt too, crowd came too, see
Jerusalem's city

{1} Bethphage -a village near the Mount of Olives
{2} Zechariah 9 v.9

A most familiar passage Orchi humility seems to be the key and also to not give the Romans cause to say a rebel that posed a threat was coming. Well done my friend
Thank you SB
Most welcome Orchi
Well written,
Thank you F.
You are most welcome, my friend.
Your hymn is a beautiful reflection on Jesus' humility and meekness. The lyrics are rich, and the imagery is vivid. Very nicely written!!!
Thank you S. It may have been a donkey / ass. even a mule!
This is a poignant hymn-poem Orchi!...Unfortunately, a certain clumb P and Co are coming to town and that procession will be anything but poignant! Why? Don't answer that! 🤣
Thank you T. I just knew they would be among the crowd and ruin it. The crowd shouted 'Hosanna' and there were some glugging sounds too. Oh dear! lol.
...sign of the Ages 🕊️🙏
Thank you A.
Good one Orchi.
Thank you Gold.
