Tune: Little Cornard
(Hills of the north, rejoice')
Matthew 21 v.33-44 parts
**********
Husbandmen in vineyard
Treated employer hard
Mistreated his servants
Jesus' parable hence
Says employer will them destroy
Let out vineyard to good employ[ees]
He asked chief priest and too
Elders, and said, Did you
Never read in scriptures*
Of these words, it assures
That the stone** which you the builders
Rejected, the same has honours
For the stone is become
Head of corner, it one
Of most important stones
Others stand not alone
The least becomes the greatest for
This is the Lord's doing, true, sure
And it is marvellous
In our eyes, e'en to us
As with those in vineyard
Treated employer hard
The kingdom of God taken shall
Be from them, removed, this know well
And it shall be given
Then unto better men
Who shall its fruits bring forth
[Who] Know this stone of great worth
Fall on this stone and be broken
Than it fall on you, shattering men
---
* Psalm 118 v.22-23
** Jesus Himself is the chief, or head, corner stone

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6.6.6.6.8.8. Some version have 'key stone' instead of 'corner stone'. A key stone is the central stone, or brick, as in the arches in the title picture. Sometimes it is called 'head stone' but this more often is used for grave memorials. Either was it's a very important stone. The building - or parts of the building - will fall down without such stones.

Another wonderful hymn poem Orchi. How many does that now make? They sure used rocks a lot back then. Building and killing whether in war David killing Goliath or executions as stoning's. Rock on I say. Good one Orchi
Thank you SB. 14 in this series so far. It may come to an end soon.
Jesus sounds like the shop steward here.
Okay, all out.
Why did we break stones in the first place.
Thank you Paul. Erm, a slight deviation by me maybe. It does not actually say 'employer', but 'lord of the vineyard' or 'owner of the vineyard'.
Well written, to me. The purpose of the poem is to convey important theological messages about faith, rejection, and the nature of God's kingdom, encouraging readers to recognize the value of Jesus and the consequences of turning away from Him.
Thank you F. Yes, and it was the false religious leaders of the day who Jesus called hypocrites.
I had a passing joke about Conrad and a little stone but it would be too irreverent. Good write, stillππ»ποΈπ·
It's Little Cornard! lol. Actually a village in Suffolk, England, UK. But I forgot the hymn clip. *adds it in now*.
You know a Conrad guy? And is he little? Or can't you tell us here, if it's part of the joke?
Well done, Orchi! I truly do love these and your are on a roll! I'll add this to your note, corner stone, key stone...just so long as you ain't no keystone cop! π€£ Yikes...I may have just dated myself! We're in the talkie era now! π
glug
Thank you T. The series may be coming to an end soon. It may finish, but someone (& Co) that we know, never finish.
Never finish what? Don't answer that! lol.
LOL! Oh for sure. One series might end before another. Glugging...it goes on and on and on...like the pink bunny, but more like the one from Donnie Darko, dripping green and white (light green?) slime. What can I say. glug? π No, not now Popeye! π±
Good one Orchi.
Thank you Gold.
