Wood table

sorenbarrett

Some trees provide fruit, others shade, some flower while from others furniture is made
The stain of pain painted in rivers of its growing grain, a forest forgot in a polished knot
Bark skin peeled away, wood bones on display, feet buried in clay will soon decay

A fine write SB. KP's got a wooden head - nothing in it! lol.

    • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much Orchi for your read and comment. My father used to call me a block head all the time.

There's wooden acting on TV and in films too! You know the 'Neighbours' joke? A prisoner chose 50 years in jail rather than having to watch one week of 'Neighbours' as punishment. Wouldn't anyone?! lol. Who can bear the latter?

        • sorenbarrett

I can say that I have been blessed in that I have never seen a single episode.

          • orchidee

I'll give ya a blow-by-blow account of every episode - argh! That'll be since the beginning of this Earth's creation then. Well, it feels like it's been on TV that long. You've not missed anything at all, not a dot nor an iota, by not having seen a single episode. lol.

Stopped watching sitcoms in 1970 and stopped watching TV altogether over a year ago (Too many adds that last too long) lose track of what is going on by the time the add is over.

Nature sure looks after us, from feeding us, to shelter, even giving us the table to eat off.
But you're right, why would we destroy this gift. Stupid man.

              • sorenbarrett

Thank you Paul for your read and kind words of support they are most important to me. I used to think that it was a crime to kill animal or plant but not so nature has her cycle and all help each other in what way they can. One incorporating another to bring new life and as long as it is not wasted there is no crime.

                great write

              • Tristan Robert Lange

Soren, this lands as a meditation on what we take and what remains. The tree feels less like an object here and more like a life translated into use, memory, and erasure. There’s a quiet reckoning in that. Well done, my friend! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

                • sorenbarrett

Thank you Tristan again my friend you have pierced the core of the poem. I thank you for your read and interpretive words

                • Friendship

The poem explores the transformation of trees from their natural state into man-made objects, highlighting the duality of nature’s beauty and the pain of its exploitation. It reflects on the lifecycle of trees, the consequences of human intervention, and the eventual decay that all living things must face.

That sounds like some good old sayings full of folk wisdom !

                        • sorenbarrett

Thanks so much Lorenz wisdom comes in many forms but none that they sell at the store. Appreciate the read and comment

I won't offer my interpretation, as others have done so finely. But I will say, it is lovely and thought provoking.

                          • sorenbarrett

Thank you so much Megan and the interpretation is fine whatever it might be. I believe poetry is a very personal thing that evokes different feelings and interpretations amongst many. I appreciate the review

I’d love to have an orchard-garden-conservatory with these arranged by categories and symbiotic symmetries and perhaps have my social life arranged in like manner as well.

                            • sorenbarrett

Thank you Cryptic I appreciate your read and comment. Orchard or grove I have, my conservatory is without glass or walls being nature itself just outside the house where it merges into the garden as well. Weather being what it is it works fine. As to social life that is more stark, only see the gardener a couple of times a week.

Trees being felled in the Amazon Rain Forest make my Blood boil. Enjoyed your Poam.

Thank you so much for the read and comment it is deeply valued. Yes it is what man calls progress. The great forests of Europe and North America as well as the Jungles of Africa all felled now only South America remain, the rest set in national forests poorly kept as tourist attractions. I am blessed with a few hundred acres of ground around me of native forest being family land. Here in the south of the country most of the rest has all been felled.
