i’m indulging in this life
peeling back the layers
like an orange, somewhat sugary
slightly sour
seriously sticky
my hands, fingers
covered in the juice of it
the remains of it
the memory of it
some pieces of my life,
my orange
are sweet
the joy of indulgence
is strong as i
lick the syrup from my fingertips
i bite down hard on the segment
with no fear
and it pops in my mouth
easy, simple
no stress, no fuss
some of my orange
is sour
sharp, acidic
tart and bitter
the essence of it
coating my tongue
it is not much fun
i squint my eyes
in an uncomfortable state of
taste exploration
and as i bite
into the flesh
i find a seed
in the sour
there is new life
growth
beauty and hope
even in the discomfort
there is more to be had
there is plenty of good
even in bad
my life, my orange
is flavourful
palatable
achingly edible
the bad and the good
the need to be understood
the admiration for food
and it is sticky
it stays with me
whether happy or sad
i am indulging
in this life
peeling back the layers
and jumping in head-first
ready for whatever
i will find.

A magnificent metaphor well explored and a fave. Just remember that the rind is bitter and one must peel it away
thank you! i try my best to peel it and focus on the sweetness instead 🙂
And so it should be.
