Tune: Noel
('It came upon the midnight clear')
Luke 1 v.46-55
*******
Mary her cousin visited
To Elisabeth led
Mary said, My soul magnifies
The Lord, He me espies
And my spirit has rejoiced in
God my Saviour, within
I assured He has regarded
Me, His purpose not hid
Has looked on my, the lowly state
Of His handmaid not late
For, behold, from henceforth shall all
Generations me call
Blessed, for He that is mighty, He
Has done great things to me
And holy is His name, and His
Mercy on us, true this
HIs mercy is on them that fear
Him, who to Him draw near
From generation e'en unto
Generation anew
And He has showed strength with His arm
Defended us from harm
And scattered those with their thoughts proud
Lowly to heights endowed
He has filled hungry with good things
His providings He brings
Rich He has sent empty away
Now their poverty's day
He has helped His servant, who be
His people Israel, see
In remembrance of His mercy
To Abraham's dynasty

A lovely poem written of Mary's time carrying child that she withdraws. This is written in the Bible as if the writer was there and written in third person it seems to break the wall so to speak. How told this story to who that told it to who to finally reach the physician Luke. A good read well written my friend
Thank you SB.
You are most welcome
Yes, Mary said it, or sung it, when visiting her cousin Elisabeth.
But who wrote it down?
Maybe she did herself. Somehow Luke got to hear or read of it and included it in his Gospel.
LOVELY, ORCHIDEE!
Thank you K,
Well done, so beautiful. Mary’s gratitude and reverence towards God for the blessings and mercy bestowed upon her and the people of Israel. It reflects themes of humility, divine favor, and the fulfillment of God’s promises through Mary’s role as the mother of Jesus.
Thank you F.
Wonderful hymn-poem, my friend! Mary, Mary, quite contrary...but why Mary, why? We knows why, don't we Mr O?...and it has something to do with Mr P and Co, no? 🤣
Thank you T. Doh! It may not be Mary who's contrary but that old-fangled glugger - whatever 'fangled' is exactly?! lol.
Exactly! Poor Mary just side-eyes and shakes her head! 🤷♂️ Even the Holy Family is not immune from those characters...
Theat glugger always has the last word - whether he sneaks in via your or my comments. lol.
Right?
Glug
Hasn't she had her baby yet? better hurry up - You must be exhausted chronicling all the goings and comings... Best to get it over with and then you can rest, orchi.
Thank you D. Yes, exhausted and confused. Happy Easter there! Eh?! lol. I dunno what year it is even.
