Joy to the Store

PerditaRose

The day after Christmas is when you should shop

At the grocery store where everyone's not.

They're busy returning the things they don't like

Or perhaps something else that isn't quite right.

To breeze down the aisles is really a pleasure.

When nobody's here, it's a time that I treasure.

To ponder the items they've put on the shelves,

I have to admit, I'm enjoying myself.

No people, no carts to get in my way.

Why can't it be like this every day?

I'm the only person in line at the deli.

I can “buy one and get one” of boxed vermicelli.

It's funny because I don't usually buy it,

Or eat it because of my new low-carb diet.

Look, all of the items I need are well-stocked.

To find that special Greek yogurt, now that really rocks.

But I've filled up my cart, time to check it all out.

Time to buy all those gift cards in different amounts,

Paying in cash from each one's envelope.

And if I forget I can still buy that coke.

Oh what a joy this excursion has been.

The better to know I've committed no sin.

The day after Christmas is really the best

At the grocery store. Now, I'll lie down and rest.

A good write in rhyme of the virtues of waiting until the day after Christmas to do one's shopping. I would have to agree enjoying the flow of this poem until the end. Nicely done

Thank you, soren. I'm glad you enjoyed it. But now you've got me curious. What is it that you don't agree with at the of end of the poem? I'm not offended or anything like that, but inquiring minds want know. 🙂

You are most welcome. As I said I would have to agree there is no disagreement there in waiting until the lines are shorter

Thank you, Katie. That's the reaction I was hoping for.

Well said. Your poem "Joy to the Store" revolves around the pleasure of shopping at a grocery store the day after Christmas. The poet reflects on the serenity of shopping when the store is less crowded, contrasting it with the chaos of holiday shopping.

Thank you, orchidee. I'd never heard your name before, so I looked it up. It makes a lovely sound. Or do prefer orchi?

Fun-filled write, Perdita. I enjoyed the read. Happy New Year.
